Putting two fingers down to hold all layers firmly together when match drilling is a great tip, especially when you have to open up holes on an assembly that has already been partially riveted since you can't take it apart and deburr anything.

I don't know which camera you are using, but I am sure there are settings for different focus modes. If you can go for a single focus point in the center and the camera will ignore the background. For your videos it might be ok to use this setting for all shots so you don't have to change the setting all the time. Thanks for your videos, I am about to order the rudder kit for a Cruzer and this is all your fault ;-)

When you have multiple skins like on the wing, how do you determine the overlap pattern? I know you want the skins forward to overlap the aft skins such that the air flow goes over the "step down" in the seam, but what do you do inboard to outboard of the wing? Does it matter when the overlap is parallel to the air flow?
@KitplaneEnthusiast
@KitplaneEnthusiast 4 жыл бұрын
Good question, I didn't think to mention this in the video because the order of the skins is shown in the plans, and in the instruction manual. There's a lot of good info in those plans and manuals! Zenith does their best to make this an easy to build kit!
@markdoan1472

Man if that order is not told to you in the plans I wouldn't buy the kit ... No idea what kit your thinking of that brings up a sequence question ... pretty sure they all tell sequence

Well, if your current career tanks, you could probably get a consulting gig with Zenith. Your attention to detail is beyond any other aircraft video series that I've seen. There's a guy named Walter Sorels that makes knives and swords professionally. His videos are very much like yours. The Northrups that have hours of photography and drone instructions are right with you, as well. A good teacher is a great asset. Thank you for doing this.

Are you adding autopilot? Have you sourced brackets or will you fabricate your own? I would assume they go in the wing before you close it up?
@KitplaneEnthusiast
@KitplaneEnthusiast 4 жыл бұрын
Yes I am definitely adding an autopilot, but the servos connect to the pushrods in the fuselage so no servos need to be installed in the wings. I'm not sure yet on the servo mounting brackets. As far as I know, no one makes brackets and I think each builder has to design and fabricate mounts. I wish Zenith would come out with a factory option for this!

Hello Mark, my question is about the rivets orientation. It is obvious on the skin, but how do you determine the rivets orientation when riveting the ribs to the spar and other components of the wing structure?
@KitplaneEnthusiast
@KitplaneEnthusiast 4 жыл бұрын
The part of the rivet that gets smashed is called the "shop head". The shop head should be on the side of the thicker material. Sometimes it is not always possible due to other structure getting in the way, and that's OK.

Mark, shouldn't you be using a better longer Level, than that plastic 12" you are using? A longer level will let you see if there is any warp or wave in the aluminum. If using small levels like yours I would have 2 or three at different sections of your wing, so they all agree.
@LTVoyager
@LTVoyager 4 жыл бұрын
The wing spars are straight and are essentially an extension of the level. There is no need for a longer level. If the spars are wavy, then he has bigger issues, It is pretty easy to sight down the spars and see how straight they are.

Maybe you address it later in the video, but at 4:06, the fitting looks one row off from where you show it at 3:52..
@KitplaneEnthusiast
@KitplaneEnthusiast 4 жыл бұрын
You have a good eye! Sometimes I do something just "for the camera" and then take things apart. In this case, you are right, I was clecoing it on but I knew that it would come off again, so I wasn't too careful in placing it in the correct hole. This is why I always state that builders should use the manuals and plans while building-don't rely on watching a video! The nice thing about the Zenith designs is that most parts can not be installed incorrectly. For example, the bracket you are referring to has all 3/16" holes. If I would have tried to put a cleco, or rivet, in all the holes then I would not have been able to install them in the last row because those holes in the spar are drilled to A5 size (5/32"). This piece CAN be installed 180 degrees which would be bad, but it actually can not be installed in the wrong set of holes. Good catch though!
