that Dobro hanging on his bedroom wall, behind him in the video , is today hanging on the wall in my bedroom… I sold hundreds of instruments through the years, but this Dobro ain’t going nowhere as long as I live 😊

Thanks Jelle again over and over for what you have done for us Buddy "lovers". He is truly THE greatest musician I have ever heard. Bar NONE. And that goes for those yet unborn. My best to Koos also. Words could never describe how much I loved and miss him. May Jesus rest his soul

Just remember Buddy loved jazz riffs and added them to "Night Life" and other hits. Pedalsteel actually brings a country, blues, rock, pop, Western swing, & honky tonk sound all together. The epitome of American music.

For me, it was Bob Dunn who pioneered the steel sound in our kind of music and Buddy polished it off and smoothed it out around the edges as an innovator. No two ways about it. It's hard to imagine what the steel guitar would have become had not the Big E pushed his ingenuity to the creative limits.

Interesting comment at 1:28, certainly debunks those that say you must practise scales to be able to improvise.
@joepalooka21454 жыл бұрын
You are totally wrong, that's not what Buddy meant at all. Yes, he started out copying the licks of his musical idols of the past. But in fact, Buddy practiced scales and arpeggios, and studied theory and harmony like every master musician does. You don't get to the top of your profession like he did without being extremely well-educated in the fundamentals.

@@joepalooka2145 God help you if your lack of English comprehension affects your ability to play and understand music..I am not totally wrong in quoting what Buddy said and passed on to mere mortals like you. Sorry if I'm the conduit for Buddy's explanation as to how he learned to improvise, you SHOULD have gleaned that tid-bit from the ACTUAL dialogue..

Yeah I don't care much for jazz on C6th but Buddy's E9th playing is better than any steel player on planet earth. Listen from 4:26
