The first time I gave my kitten a bath she started crying and reaching for me so I gave in and gave her a hug. *WORST MISTAKE EVER* it was a trap she gripped on to me and I still have scars to this day. (Update she passed away even tho the scars hurt at the time I'm sort of glad to have it as a memory)

Vet advice: Cats don't usually need baths, but there are some exceptional circumstances. If they're rolled in something that they can't wash off themselves, or they have long hair which has become matted, a bath might be a good idea. If as a munchkin his tummy gets soiled it would be best to just wipe the area with warm cloth, but he should clean it himself as he's young and healthy. soaking/bathing him is unnecessary and unpleasant for him.

Luthormaniac bruh every animal is prone to bacteria. If washing your cat is destroying their nature then putting them in your house is too. Ever heard of tapeworms? yeah they exist and having the idea of letting your cat live in your home with nothing but their own saliva cleansing them does not sound hygenic. Bathe them once a month or even every 2 months bruh just let that fur get some good cleansing other than cat saliva.

MPDeity It’s not torture haha... he’s an outdoor cat and gets dirty really easily due to his thick long fur. He also gets a lot of ticks and fleas during the summer. I wouldn’t wash my cat for no reason.

Kittens just aren’t experts at grooming themselves yet, they’ve not finished growing. Normally mom would still be helping, but humans can’t really be expected to do the same via mouth if cat mom isn’t there.

to anyone who wants to try it at home: get warm water so it’s comfortable get a towel under the water where the cat should be standing so they have a solid and grippy ground don’t let water flow while cat is inside avoid loud noises

I think letting your cat chill in the sink/basin for a while first, with some treats and toys also helps; as they get a positive association with the place. Instead of it being new unfamiliar unpleasant place, it's a familiar pleasant place, that is just more wet. Also, in general with handling your cat, never let them squirm out of your grasp; you should always be the one to put them down. If you let them squirm out, then they realize that's something that works, and will do it more; but if they understand that squirming isn't going to help, they won't do it as much. (That said, unless there is a good reason, if your cat wants to be put down you should put them down, respect their boundaries)

@@azureaqua_1177 I will correct you then. Cats can spend up to 50% of their waking hours cleaning themselves, their tounge is coarse (as you probably know) and their saliva cleans them very well. This doesn’t just make it unnecessary to bathe your cat, you are also removing their scent which to them is a sort of ID. The act of bathing is also very stressful for them, and should be avoided unless absolutely necessary. Reasons to bathe your cat: -They have something on their coat that is too hard/bad for them to wash off. Or have just become very very dirty for some reason. -They are elderly and have stopped grooming themselves. Or obese and can’t reach everywhere (the obesiety is another problem in itself though) -They are a hairless cat. -A rescued street cat might be very dirty or be infested with fleas. You are right that they need a bath if they are infested. But usually that doesn’t happen to cats that have a home. Your cat can get fleas, but usually it’s enough to use a flea comb and some products. For tics, they usually are just 1 or 2 at a time if you take care of your cat (also depends on the area ofc). When you pet your cat and look at them, you will usually fine them pretty quickly if they have one. Then you just manually remove them with tweezers or one of those tic removing things. Bathing is not necessary.

Especially for cats you keep at home and don't let out. For themselve they are clean, but it's not always a "good" clean and a cat can stink with the time... It doesn't kill them if you wash them and it isn't unhealthy either.

I love how careful she is being with coco and making him comfortable lol. when I got my first dog, my family and I had no clue how to bathe her, so we carried her into the bath tub and scrubbed her and now she is PETRIFIED of baths lmao 😂 since she got so big, we can’t even carry her into the tub now so we hose her down.
