When I was coming up, Otep, Kittie and Arch Enemy were the Big Three of female-fronted metal bands. If you were looking for metal bands that had female vocalists (or in Kittie's case, nothing but female members), you basically couldn't escape them. I never would've guessed that Kittie would be the ones to age the best out of those three bands.

I can't think of another example where a band's best album was the 7th in their catalog, but if the other half of Fire is anywhere near as good as what we've heard so far, I think that might just be the case for Kittie. Spit has strong nostalgia and novelty factors on its side, but listening critically, this album may be the best work these ladies have ever done. What's more, it seems like they really had fun with this one (which often makes for some of the best albums). You can just feel it in the energy of all of the songs. And I don't think the band has sounded as cohesive and synergized since Spit. As someone who grew up alongside the band from the beginning, I couldn't be more proud amid their triumphant return. Kittie, if this is the result of taking your time, not feeling pressured to pump out an album every two years, then by all means, take your time from now on!... Though maybe not 13 years every time 😉

The rest of the album is indeed as good as what they released as singles. My absolute favorite song is “Grime” which is super heavy, has great breakdowns, & has the Lander sisters both screaming- Morgan providing the high pitched screams and Mercedes the death metal growls. “Wound” and “Falter” are also super good… I can blast the whole album and not want to skip a song! So good ♥️

I remember clearly watching the video for Run Like Hell late at night on Mtv and thinking they were heavier than most bands at the time, at least those making videos, and they sounded nothing like Limp Bizkit or Korn. It wasn't until much later that i found out the music press had put them in the same "Nu Metal" hotchpotch as everyone else. Glad i discovered Kittie with Charlotte instead of Brackish and then straight to Oracle, it helped forming a more unbiased opinion and i still like them 23 years later. In fact the new album is reminescent of Oracle, i think that was the right direction all along. Strong comeback, glad to see them killing it after so many years
