Australia has a huge population with a huge pie market, therefore the market is flooded with pies to suit all price ranges. And in between there's plenty of artisan pies to be bought, that could be either worse or better then the very few locations you can get them in New Zealand.

You should have had the mince and cheese, thats where kiwis are the best. Im picking that smoked fish pie would be next level too. For a plain pie with no sauce it must of been pretty good. Trouble with aussie pies is most of them buy in the pastry bases which tastes like cardboard.

Looks homemade, definitely a plus. The pseudo meatballs just mean it wasn't broken up while cooking. I would prefer that to all liquid. BTW water is quite heavy for it's volume so "Light" is always probably going to mean less water.

Greg, When doing a pie review, you can't go wrong with a simple mince pie, there is nothing else to cloud the taste buds. Pretty fair review though. Suprised you didn't do the dead-horse test, which the standard for all meat pie tests.

I am sure it is a really nice pie. However and can get 4 only slightly smaller and very tasty pies for $6.50. Approximately $1.60 a pie. So $7 for one is pretty steep.
