Kiwi’s remarkable, hair-raising come-from-behind win in the 1983 Melbourne Cup is the stuff of Legend. ‘A Horse Called Kiwi’ tells the tale of how that win came about, and what it meant to so many people. Gee remember watching this race at the pub and remember the the word's "and kiwi last of all" coming around the final bend, at the time thinking he was gone. He hit the front with 50 metres to go running away. Glad to have witnessed a fore...nominal race, Commentator,'s call. Can't remember what horse I drew at work but the one day I didn't mind losing. Think that was the same across the country and how happy & proud that made me...us all feel. Some Racing legions there, and Kiwi kiwi kiwi ringing in my ears after the Great Race, a great night had by all, and we weren't at the Waverley pub👍😊

Because he worked stock Kiwi was able to change direction several times in the home straight without losing any momentum, his balance, his stamina and Pumper's ride - best race ever!

I remember jumping off the couch as a young fella cheering with my dad, both of us doing the shin dig stomp in our lounge, my mum sitting at the kitchen table with her cuppa tea.....a cool moment of Kiwi Pride and joy.....to the memory of the Luptons and the great surprise, the farm hack "Kiwi" Awesome! ❤

This is a fantastic movie and saw it when it came on TVNZ a few years ago. Kiwi was some racehorse - an absolute legend, along with Mr & Mrs Lupton and ‘Pumper’ Cassidy. 1983 is a long time ago now but this production takes us back and provides context for younger ones.

I was sitting in class that day and I shouted out KIWI I don’t know why or how I knew but from that moment on I knew KIWI was going to win the cup I was 17 so I got my mum to put $100 on kiwi to win and KIWI was 100/1 .

This was a good movie and I didn’t even know it was made till it popped up today. THE CUP is a very special race and it seems that the best story of the day usealy goes to the winner of the race each year. I have picked a lot of the winners over the years and have a great day every year. It has lost a lot of merit since going international.

The was a wonderful movie account of a racehorse that I was not familiar with. However, I feel it could have done without the frequent depictions of the jockey's immoral lifestyle. I wanted to watch it with horse-loving children, but this made it a no-go for being family friendly and did not add to the story which was so inspiring.

This movie is incorrect. Kiwi was not scratched from the 1984 Melbourne Cup. He ran 4tth behind Black Knight. I can still remember the call of the race from Bill Collins. He called Kiwi finishing fast and he said, it'll be too late today.
