Yağlı gevrek is a traditional pastry known and loved in many regions of Turkey. This pastry, which is especially popular in Izmir and its surroundings, is prepared by combining simple ingredients, but the flavor offered is very rich and satisfying.
Fat crispy is a crispy pastry prepared by combining flour, water, salt and oil, and is fried to a yellow golden color. Although it is usually consumed with tea, it sometimes finds a place at breakfast as well.
Yağlı gevrek is a Turkish pastry that has managed to conquer the taste buds of many people with the taste it offers, even though it is prepared with simple ingredients. Such simple but delicious recipes are of great importance in keeping traditional tastes alive and passing them on to new generations. Yağlı gevrek, as one of these traditions, is an example that reflects the richness and diversity of Turkish cuisine.
MATERIALS
250 grams of margarine or butter
One tablespoon of grape vinegar
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons of granulated sugar
One tea glass of oil
2 eggs (egg white will be used for the topping)
Half a tea glass of water
Half a glass of milk
6 cups flour
One packet of baking powder (10 grams)
Approximately 150 grams of Sesame seeds
PREPARATION OF
First, we add 250 grams of margarine into a suitable bowl. Then, we add 1 teaspoon of salt, 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon of grape vinegar, 2 egg yolks and mix it. Then we add half a tea glass of water, half a tea glass of milk and 1 tea glass. We add the oil and mix it well. We need to do the mixing process well to avoid lumps. Then, we start kneading the dough by slowly adding 6 cups of flour. The dough will have the consistency of an earlobe. Finally, we add a pack of baking powder and continue the kneading process. We knead the dough thinly. We roll it into rolls and cut them approximately 15-20 centimeters long. We repeat this process until we run out of dough. Then, we coat the dough we prepared first in egg white, then in sesame seeds and place it on a tray. We bake it in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for about 35-40 minutes. We serve it hot or cold if we want.
