So many of their songs are actually quite interesting and artful minus vocals. Even if you like Durst (...), the huge divide between the band as an instrumental unit and the vocals/lyrics that ended up on top of them is clear. Wes Borland was a genuine artist. The most surprising one for me, bc the lyrics were so distractingly dumb, is "My Way". The effects and guitar riff on the chorus there are great on the instrumental

@Tom A. Aha! This I most definitely did not know. Do you know around when that started? Or was it always happening on some level? Because for the most part, with the first few records, I can't recall Borland being credited for any words--though, once again, maybe I just didn't know about it!!

@CL CL Wow, that's a really interesting way to put it...but I think I see what you mean. I feel like it's a bit of a shame that he's been sort of ball-and-chain tied down/linked [in a negative sense] to his history in LB, whatever he tried to do afterwards...for example, he almost got the guitar spot in Nine Inch Nails in 2005 [one of my favorite bands, esp at the time] but at the last minute Reznor backed out because, even though he recognized Borland's brilliance as a player and what he could bring to the band, he felt a certain segment of his audience would reject him simply because of his history...sigh...

@CL CL @CL CL I fuckin' hope so, the bloke deserves it! It's funny, when I was into Limp Bizkit, they were a new band, and I was only in 7th grade. I remember I did a 'report' on them for school, and even in that, I still remember that one of the sections was about how they had to trick Wes, bc Fred was known within the scene as someone trying out for all these Jacksonville bands. He was basically like, right, I'll jam with you guys, but I'm not playing in a band with THAT guy. And when he shows up, who's behind the mic??

Durst's lyrics are cringe man, idk, they completely ruin their songs for me. The chorus of this song is a very good example: the instrumental is some of the hardest shit you can find and then comes in Durst and just ruins it with his "take a cookie and stick it up your yeah" nonsense. Wtf man. Completely destroys the mood of the chorus making it sound extremely childish.
