His music comes to uplift and enrich us. His humility along with his respect for tradition, his thirst of learning and improvement and giving us pristine music is something we cherish deeply in our hearts. He has accomplished so much and he is still going strong without resting on his laurels! He is beyond Bharat Ratna and any manmade award. Like the greats, Dr. BMK and SPB, his gANam is timeless! Let's enjoy it all the time!
With TVG, you are guaranteed a treat. His enthusiasm and deep involvement is clearly evident and he compliments KJY well as always.

Hello Jayram, Thank you. To answer your questions, the very first time I saw Yesudas up close was in 1970 in Kochi when I was 20, a college student when he organized a meeting of all the arts secretaries of various colleges in Kerala to promote the learning and enjoyment of classical music among the young generation, especially among college students. He presided the meeting. That was a surreal experience sitting right in front of him in a very small hall. The very first song that I heard live was in 1967 or 1968 when he came to inaugurate Kerala College Students Association when he said "I don't know how to make speeches; singing is all I know; do you still want me speak?" All the students shouted "We want you to sing". With a smile he obliged (no instruments at all) with 2 movie songs saying these 2 songs were also appreciated by people in Russia where he was invited as a cultural ambassador from India. He had just returned from his Russia trip when this meeting took place. I still distinctly remember the 2 songs. They are melodious songs. You don't need to understand the meaning of the lyrics when you listen to Yesudas. The songs were "Manjubhashini", and "Attin Manapurathe". Look them up on YT. Obviously all the students were extremely happy as if they won a lottery. I have one suggestion for you if you could accommodate. It'll be interesting to his South and North Indian movie fans if you could post just the "Chand Akela" from the Hindi movie Alaap with the YT search title "Chand Akela Yesudas Live" and a description of the context. I'm sure many music lovers will enjoy that if you're allowed to do this especially because Chand Akela is a superior composition of a melody that is complex and delicate but very beautiful when sung correctly and Yesudas sang it perfectly and effortlessly with all its beauty both in the movie and in this concert as he always does.

This is an amazing gem of a find. Thank you Jayram for finding it and posting it in its entirety. Not being trained in classical music, I don't know any of the technical nuances but I love the velvety vocal tone of Yesudas and his melodious rendition. The sound recording overall of this concert is excellent despite being a live recording except for a very brief segment the tape slowing caused some dragging, more noticeable in the violin more so than the vocal or percussion. I always look forward to the 2nd half of Yesudas concerts when he sings several semi-classical movie songs he originally recorded to oblige the many fans who always request him to sing movie songs. In this concert I was thrilled to hear him sing "Chand Akela" from the Hindi movie Alaap that I haven't heard him present in his inimitable perfect simple style in any other classical concerts (among the 20 or so of Yesudas classical concerts I have been lucky to attend over the years). Please find other such Yesudas concerts and post them. Thank you.

Yesudas sings Gnanamosakarada in Shadvidhamargini and it has raised many eyebrows as according to one school Thyagaraja has no compositions in that raga, but obviously Yesudas has a different opinion on that

The concert may be of the early 80s violin support is most probably by Bangalore thyagarajan or B Sasikumar. Bangalore Thyagarajan does feature in some of the earlier live concert albums of KJ Yesudas Sir

@@JayramSataluri I have listened to a few concerts of K J Yesudas in close quarters. Yesudas being one of the early disciple of my Guru Ramankutty Bhagavather had performed at the celebrations of our music school twice - 1984 and 2000. I do have a copy ( cassette)of his concert of 1984. Incidentally my father who was a friend Yesudas's father used to accompany KJ Y regularly before his playback singing days.i.e before he left for Chennai

Regarding his concert performance. It was always bang on the Sruthi. But a honest comment on the concert that you have uploaded is that he loses control over the laya. The tempo goes speeding up
