When Gabby walked through the doors of Kim Jay Dance Company, on this day she had a bashful smile on her face. At first you could mistake this for being nervous but once you got to know this 6 year old, you’d understand very clearly that she was excited for this moment. In fact, since her journey began 2 years ago at KJDC she’s been nothing but smiles. Now let’s not get too futuristic about 6 year olds and their work ethic, she is still just a kid. Still there is something to be said about how she practices everyday. “A good dancer has to try every single time they make mistakes…I just keep trying” she said. Gabby loves Acro, ballet, tap and hip hop. Now She couldn’t recall what her instructors had to say, but Gabby remembers her favorite moments, in her green dress, on stage at recital. A bright star, Gabby shined in a ballet number, dancing as Princess Tiana at The Wonderful World of Dance, KJDC’s 6th season recital. During the interview you learn of her love for both dog and cats, she mentioned that she had a dog that had passed. I felt a wave of sadness and wondered if this memory was the motive behind her wanting to be a vet when she grew up. I thought about how extraordinary Gabby is, of course she was graced as the November Dancer of The Month, it makes sense. It was clear she was growing in confidence and dance was a big part of that.
