Also regarding that press conference about Driver Safety making turnout drop, let me try and better word it. She's trying to ask if the new safety initiatives took away some of the urgency in racing and caused fans to be less invested as a result. It's not her saying people want drivers to be in danger and be hurt, more that as morbid as it is to say, the greater danger created grit that fans respected more. Think the WWE Attitude Era, the most celebrated and viewed period of Professional Wrestling. A lot of half naked women, chair headshots/concussions, no wellness policy and other themes that are frowned upon today. People don't want wrestlers to get injured, they simply respect the wrestlers who endured those awful conditions/danger before changes were made for the better I disagree of course, I'm more inclined to blame the explosion of the internet in 2006 creating competition and that Talladega Nights (and Cars to an extent) pushed the stereotypes to the point that people became at best confused and at worst embarrassed to associate with the sport which made it more vulnerable to mockery (Turn left, rednecks, racists, that sort of shit)
@extragoogleaccount60612 жыл бұрын
There completely is a conversation to be had on that topic. No one wants to openly discuss it, but yea, I think there is and always has been an element of danger to motorsports that makes them different from all other sports. Its not that you WANT something to go wrong and for someone to get hurt, but that the possibility is there, that one wrong move could end in catastrophe. Real fans dont watch just for the crashes, but accidents are a part of motorsports, and - just like that element of danger - all of the parts are needed to come together as the whole package and the sport we love. (For the record, I am all about driver safety and I still think there is an element of danger, we haven't gotten rid of it entirely. But if - lets say - the drivers weren't even in their cars and controlled them remotely.....yea, I think something would definitely be lost there lol. Even though it would be the safest yet)
@dookiebooger99672 жыл бұрын
The reporter had a good question and I think Tony was wrong. The fans love the danger! They keep making the cars safer and yet there's less n less fans year after year. I don't think that's a coincidence. I think if they made em like the used to back in the 70's and 80's, fucking death traps but still fast as hell, then there'd be more fans. Of course there would be more injuries and even some fatalities but so what, that's the price ya pay. Ya can't just turn the whole world into a padded room with straight jackets and expect us to have fun. It's just a bitter truth of our own human nature, deep down we all love the chaos
