It doesn't make sense if they are all of Khmer ethnicity from the countryside (except the Han Chinese girl in red) but all use the Teochew word "Yi 姨" which means "Aunt from the Mother side". The Khmer word was and still "Ming មីង" = "Younger Aunt" or "Aom Srey អ៊ំស្រី" = "Elder Aunt" Same in your 2 last series with "Ze 姊" meaning "Big/Elder Sister" in Teochew instead of Khmer "Bang Srey បងស្រី". Chinese languages were banned since the Lon Nol regime. Before 1970, all Cambodians of full Han origin or from a mixed Khmer-Han ethnic background, were multilingual and spoke their native languages ➡️ Cantonese, Hakka and/or Minnan (Teochew and Hokkien are dialects of the Minnan language) + Mandarin + Khmer as a language National of Cambodia. Today's full Khmer ethnic group, despite being the majority, no longer knows how to speak Khmer ; but mainly mixes English, Siamese, Vietnamese and a little bit Teochew words. I'm half Han and half Khmer from overseas, but when I was children no one was mixing words back then. Everyone made the difference between ethnic and national language. It's important for learning and general knowledge ! Maybe the authors must have been born in the 1980s and are from urban area. All series are already good and educational, but it lacks Khmer subtitles. Also we would like to see more fact and research in the scenario for all your series ; 1970 was only 52 years ago !

I believe that it just part of everyday use now. I don't know much about the history you mentioned but my family also half Chinese. However, in Cambodia itself "Yi" or "Ming" is becoming synonym now. This is just normal here that why no one find it as a mistake. Plus if you talk about the neighbor aunty, her character is probably half Chinese, so the writer use the word "Yi" since it is usually use by Cambodian-Chinese. Hope I explain some of ur doubt. On a side note, it really interesting you brought this up, it something new that I learn. I will go research about it more. If you don't mind can you provide some source, so that I can read. Thanks in advance.

@@ratheanayeang7766 - "Ming មីង" means "Young Aunt ➡️ Father's or Mother's Sister" (Family) or "Woman of the age to be your Young Aunt" (Non-Family) in Khmer ; - "Yi 姨" means "Young Aunt or Elder Aunt ➡️ Mother's Sister" - age doesn't matter (Family Only) in Teochew. Meanings are different, such as: - "Mea មា" means the "Young Uncle ➡️ Little Brother of the Mother" (Family only) in Khmer ; - "Pou ពូ" means the "Young Uncle ➡️ Little Brother of the Father" (Family) or "Man of the age to be your Young Uncle" (Non-Family) in Khmer. Actress who plays the neighbor looks like a Siamese Thai ; while those who play father and mother look more like half Han - half Khmer than her (they really are by their family names, faces & skin colors 😂). Her character has a child and isn't family related to the mother, she should've been called "Taitai 太太" means ➡️ "Woman of the age to be their Aunt - Younger or Elder age doesn't matter" (Non-Family)" in Teochew. No Han or mixed Han speaks like her. Authors don't know Khmer language well (they made the same mistake with their 2 last series), and Cambodians of Han Chinese origin ; yet refugees in Cambodia for +100 years because of the Opium Wars & Sino-Japanese Wars 😕.
