Klampar had good wrist, good reaction & could read spin & was very efficient. He locked the elbow & got the power from the shoulder which the chinese later adopted from the hungarians. b.t.w. he was also good in soccer & drag racing. szép volt Tibi.

He locked the wrist as well, it was an old-fashioned choked-grip, stiff wrist style. There are almost no young players now with that style; except a few years ago I recall a good Japanese junior with that game. Short, stiff, punching shots off both wings, very hard for his opponents to read.

★★★★★ Hungaria’s #1 player Klampár Tibor had a very simple, effective blocking game against the FIRST Chinese power looper Guo YueHua (men’s singles champion in the 1981 & 1983 WTTC). His game was perhaps born out of his awkward FH/BH strokes that he had no Big swing but used a lot of wrist power. While sticking closed to the table, he used his tall frame to cover every inch of the table and returned shots at amazingly high speed and wide angle to the detriment of a power looper.

Klampar wasn't tall. He was average height. Klampar, Jonyer, and Gergely were approximately the same height, and I know for a fact that Jonyer wasn't tall. Klampar played somewhat erect style, not crouched. That might have given the impression of height.

Some marketing "suit" decided TT needing jazzing up for telly, so installed an acid yellow floor. Ball immediately invisible to viewers. That was 1977. Move forward nearly 50 years, and a different generation of suits keep repeating the same childish error. Laughable.

Not jazzed up. It's a general-purpose gym with light-colored wood. You can see the badminton court layouts. Also, the color-balance of the camera is substandard. For basketball they would have used premium camera equipment
