It won't help you. Maritime law is the system of laws that apply in international waters. It's completely irrelevant to the situation. Squatter's rights on the other hand; those are legal precedents by which an individual can claim ownership over unclaimed or abandoned property. the exact criteria very by region, so you'll have to do your own research, but it's usually something along the lines that you have to be able to prove that you've been living on and maintaining the property for a certain period of time.
