Klaus Compels Stefan to Turn His Humanity Off | The Vampire Diaries 3x05 "The Reckoning"

To pretend like everything is normal, Caroline forces everyone to participate in senior prank night, but the night immediately takes a turn when Klaus arrives. Desperate to make a hybrid, Klaus feeds Tyler his blood, snaps his neck, gives Bonnie twenty minutes to figure out how to save him, and compels Stefan to feed on Elena when the clock runs out. Stefan fights the compulsion, but Klaus decides Stefan’s humanity is holding him back, and compels him to turn it off. While Stefan’s life is being ruined, Vicki tries to send Matt a message from the Other Side. Matt and Bonnie then realize they need Jeremy to talk to her. Unfortunately, Jeremy spent all day in the trunk of a car after being kidnapped by Katherine to figure out how to find Mikael. With Jeremy gone, Matt decides to take matters into his own hands and drowns himself to talk to his sister, who tells him the Original Witch said Elena has to die. Klaus instead decides to feed Elena’s blood to Tyler, creating his first successful hybrid.

Please make an episode about the necklace. It's such an important piece of TVD lore, and it's almost its own character. It's interesting to go back and look for those little things on a rewatch that you likely didn't pay much attention to the first time.

Awesome analysis as always. Damon lifting Elena from the Hospital & then their moment in the mansion hit hard. Her reaction to Damon's "I will never leave you again" hit you hard in the feels. I never thought of this being the final nail in the coffin for Stelena but the way you explain the scene, it makes so much sense. I think it was a gradual separation & I see another scene being the final final nail. That's for a little later on in the season but for now it involved Matt.

I know exactly what you are talking about and I agree-- that was the moment of no return for Stelena. I could see Elena trying to get past this episode for years before finally giving up, but the scene you mentioned was the doom of Stelena ultimately. She wouldn't need to spend years trying to get past it, in just two months or so it was enough to break her completely out of love.

About the hybrid thing. I remember after we learned that Hope turned Hayley at the end of season 1 TO a lot of people were not fine as how babys blood turned her if you need Elenas blood to finish the transition. But I learned that the only reason he needed Elenas blood was solely bc of the curse that was on him with the blood of Tatia and thats why him turning wolf needs to have Elenas blood. Hope never was cursed so and Tyler prooved that even when she was in the womb her blood was used so thats an explanation

The scene between Damon & Elena at the Salvatore house is so good. When Elena says "Where were you Damon". It makes me want to protect Elena somehow. It's the most innocently delivered sentence of the show imo. Damon is still my favorite character his comedy is top tier and the brothers are my favorite duo and their brotherhood is my favorite thing about the show. I like Delena the most as a couple I just want Damon to be happy I feel he needs it the most. Edit: I also think when putting a duo together choosing Damon/Ian is the best choice to start with. Every single one of his duo's is the best part of the show to me. I mean the list is crazy good. Damon & Elena Damon & Stefan Damon & Bon Bon Damon & Alaric Damon & Liz Damon & Rose Damon & Mason Damon & Enzo Damon & His Car (1969 Chevy Camaro ZL1 Convertible) the car is the only thing I'd choose over Elena I'm sorry it's just so beautiful.

I definitely also feel that this episode was the end of Stelena. I loved it when damon told elena, “I will never leave you again.” The way they looked at each other, they are so in love it’s crazy. Damon coming to Elena’s rescue never fails to bring a smile to my face. 😭

I’ve started timing cooking my meals to finish as soon as the episodes premiere so I can have something to eat whilst I watch 😁. Absolutely loving these season 3 retrospects so far! Keep up the good work Sarah & Rachel and Producer Shea! Also P.S. I think a special episode on the necklace can be done after season 3 finale, considering it is the last time (for a while) where it plays any significance -after Elena turns into a vampire-

Knowing the story with the first doppleganger, I wonder if Klaus was tempted by Elena so that´s why he was so flirty with her, but then again Katherine might have ruined the allure of it all for him and now he just wants them dead xD. Also how brilliant was the original with with her spells and loopholes, just fantastic how she thought of everything, Bonnie could learn a lot from her.

This is definitely a top 5. It’s possibly the #1. Definitely it is for me. Everything was done perfectly. Only thing that may beat it out was the season 3 finally.
