Ppl don’t realize Dallas doesn’t need to be a top 3 defense like they were to end the szn, they just need to be top 10 and let that insane offense run free. Defense can be made up with effort offense is 80% talent you can’t make up for that

@@marcsino5489 can we stop with the defense wins championship thing? teams that won the 3pt Battle won the series 90% of the time this playoff run and Denver won a ring last year having a middle of the pack defense (in the playoffs were 10th out of 16 teams in def rating and in the regular season they were 14th in def rtg) .... you win championships when your team can consistently score more than the other team... It can be achieved both ways by conceding less points or by having and outstanding offence. teams can't win w/o defense like teams can't win without offence...

IMO DJJ and PJ aren’t elite defenders. They are good defenders. The game changer defensively for the Mavs was getting 48 mins of elite rim protection by pairing Lively with Gafford. Elite rim protection covers A LOT of perimeter defensive mistakes. As long as those two are healthy the defense will be good. Lively could be even better next season too as his improvement has been insane

Grimes is an upgrade over Green, Marshall is an upgrade over Jones Jr, and Klay is a big upgrade over THJ! And the total net cost for these upgrades was a pair of 2nd Round picks! Nico did really well.

Marshall is not better than DJJ, overall. I hope they are equal...
@reececisneros16223 ай бұрын
@@arjunadan3812as of right now, they’re equal. Marshal is more physical defensively which lets him guard 1-4 effectively and sometimes 5 too. And he’s a way more consistent three shooter than DJJ. And we all see how free agents come and play career years with Luka all the time because of the wide open shots he generates. DJJ came to Dallas and shot the same amount of 3s he did in Chicago in the first 6 weeks of the season because of Luka generating shots. Naji is definitely on the skill level of DJJ and could be better. Nobody knew DJJ was going to be as good as he was before the season started either.

@@arjunadan3812 Marshall is the one who could guard Shai 1 on 1 except for lively, pocketing and straight up ripping the ball out of his hands. He has longer wingspan than DJJ so he uses that to pocket ball handlers. When DJJ was on there, he was straight up getting cooked by Shai. Also, he has a WAY BETTER offensive bag than DJJ, Marshall CAN pass. His time on the pelicans was throwing lobs to Zion, Really good ball handling and being able to finish at the rim fantastically, and passing to thee cutters driving in the paint. No disrespect to DJJ, but when he isn't able to straight openly dunk or gets his shots falling, he's done, like when he got demolished by the celtics by eating all his dunk attempts.

Most of these ignorant comments come from casual nba fans at best. If you’re a casual or a Celtics fan you didn’t watch the Mavs until that series. Hard to make concrete statements on small sample sizes like that, against a great team, when all role players hit the wall and Luka had one chest bump away from a collapsed lung. Mavs needed shooting and our shooter was broken( THJ ), and Kai was mia for three games in Boston

What I hate the most about the finals this past season is that it empowers the idiots of the NBA world to perpetuate lies about the Mavs. That series should have been much closer than it was, really a shame how it turned out. I was mad disappointed with Kyrie’s performance along with the role players.

DJJ is a great on ball defender with length but is limited on offense (shooting) but is an elite finisher in the open court. I see Marshall as a shooting upgrade and good defender with more muscle. Quentin Grimes is a better defender than Green or Tim Hardaway Jr. grimes is also a more consistent scorer than Josh Green was.
@kalithechamp14123 ай бұрын
They needed klay to attac closeouts and make insane shots as the second option. Klay will now be the 3rd option taking wide open catch and shoot shots, which he shit 45% from 3 on wide open shots. As long as he’s a good defender in this system, not the best but just good/enough, then the league is in trouble

As a Warriors fan I feel sorry for Mavs fans. I hope you realise what your GM has signed up for. Do you remember how good prime Klay Thompson was? 37 points in quarter, lockdown perimeter defence... Yeah forget all that Klay has been a cry baby chucker who defends as well as a traffic cone ever since the injuries. I can't wait for the constant side eyes between him and Luka as the each try to out do each other with ridiculous shot difficulty. Now you not only have to try and hide Luka on defence you have to try and compensate for Klank as well.

Crazy. As a mavs fan Klay was my favorite player during the 2015-19 era. The amount of disrespect and hate thus man gets is insane. Be grateful for what he did for your franchise. A lot of fans don't even get to witness their team win it all. California sports fans are so spoiled and annoying and it's sad to see.
@alasdairmacdonald98383 ай бұрын
He was many Dubs fans favourite player back during the dynasty but that doesn't change his toxic behaviour and attitude in the last few years. The Warriors as a team really set themselves up. They made many statements about emulating the Spurs, being lightyears ahead. But few of the Star players made the sacrifices necessary nor humbled themselves to truly try and replicate what the Spurs achieved. Many Californian fans are spoiled many others are objective enough to admit when good things come to an end.

My guy! You perfectly nailed this. I feel the same way, but the reddit sub is riddled with "klay is washed." The thing is though, Klay doesnt have to play better than average defense. Kidd can run rotations where Luka, Kyrie, & Klay play most of their minutes with only 2 of them on the floor. Grimes is a better defender than JG. Klay is a better defender than THJ. I would argue that Naji's defense is just as good, maybe not at the PoA though.

Derrick Jones Jr can't officially sign with anyone until after the 15 days...including the Clippers.
@maferreira19843 ай бұрын
Another thing people overlook is that Luka, Kyrie and Klay might not be elite defenders, but they are all very smart defenders on a team that relies much more on defensive scheme than on pure 1-on-1 "stay in front of your man" style. So Klay arriving as 3rd option to take even a tiny bit of the offensive load from Luka (and Kyrie, to a degree) might also allow for a sligth reorganization of rotation, usage and minutes that, in the long run, could ensure Luka won't show up to play bandaged up as if he was just pulled out of a train wreck -- and that, in turn, should allow for sustainable defensive effort on his part throughout the postseason.
