I love how even king Toller (RIP) knows and openly states they were robbed. Love and miss his commentary.

I will admit though that B&B deserved first place in the compulsories (although K&P perhaps could've maybe placed first in the Blues CD). But I had K&P in a clear first in both the OSP and FD.

@@gk891 I think B&B deserved only 4th in the FD. If they deserved only 4th in the OD they could be 4th even winning the CDs, but I didn't see any of the ODs beside Klimova & Ponomarenko so can't comment on that. Interesting at these worlds Klimova & Ponomarenko won the OD over Bestiamanova & Bukin, and Wilson & McCall were 2nd in the CDs over Klimova & Ponomarenko, while Annenko & Stretenski had some 2nd and 3rd place ordinals in various dances, so there atleast was some interesting competiton and less predictability in the scoring at these worlds. Until Bestiamanova & Bukin were showered with a Torvill & Dean row of 6.0s for their weakest ever FD before all the other top teams skated that is, but aside from that. It was still nice to atleast see some different placings even though everyone finished where they always did in the end.

@@grantgoffin4774 Were K&P only 3rd in the CDs at these Worlds? Wikipedia has them ranked second in the CDs. I actually thought B&B's Waltz OSP was decent. It's not as great as K&P's OSP was but I was surprised at how much I ended up liking it. I liked it better than W&M's waltz. But I too only had B&B fourth in the free dance. That was possibly their worst free dance ever.
@grantgoffin47742 жыл бұрын
@@gk891 You are right. My bad. I remember from CBC them being 3rd in a CD, but I guess it was not overall. B&B's getting more perfect 6.0s and higher scores for that free dance than any other program in their career is the weirdest thing ever.
@gk8912 жыл бұрын
@@grantgoffin4774 That's interesting because I thought all three of K&P's CDs were better than W&M's. I actually had A&S in front of W&M for some of the compulsory dances. But I have to admit that it's been a while since I've seen any of them.

B&B were very dramatic but they were always trying to make the easy look difficult (although they couldn't really fool a semi-trained eye). These 2 made the difficult look so smooth and effortless. Both D&D and U&Z had passionate and dramatic FDs but technically, they weren't in the same league as these 2. Ice dance is a sport and thus, technical abilities and skills should be considered more important than expression (although expression is by no means to be ignored).

@libralady1010 B&B deserved to win in 1985 but every year after that K&P should have been World and Olympic Champs until they retired. Well except for maybe the 1991 Worlds which Usova & Zhulin (but definitely not the Duchensays) should have won.
@brunozaid15 жыл бұрын
Have you ever seen B&B´program in 1987? Their interpretation of Cabaret was incomparatively more brilliant and interesting that this program of P&K. And from 1988 on, there were the Duchesnay and Usova-Zhulin, both couples who were fare more inventive than boring K&P. Yes, they are very elegant and skilfull.... but that´s it! (apart from their beautiful programs in 1985 and 1992, I´ll give you that).

I was mad at them for robbing Blumberg & Seibert of their bronze medal at the 84 Olympics, Blumberg & Siebert should have won silver in fact and didn't even medal due to Soviet politics, that I was happy for this team to always lose. I never wanted them to win anything ever. My bitterness and dislike at them over the 84 result never left. I agree they were probably robbed to lose to B&B in many events, but since they robbed Blumberg & Siebert of their hard earned Olympic medal I was always happy to see it, and see their dissapointment. I had hatred for them due to 84.

While I agree that B&S should've won a medal at the 1984 Olympics (I probably had them in second), Marina and Sergei didn't give out the marks. The judges did. If you want to be angry at someone, be angry at the judges. Especially the Italian judge who stupidly said that you can't dance to Scheherazade or something along those lines. As any music can be 'danced' to. That wasn't Marina and Sergei's decision.

@@gk891 Klimova and Ponomarenko could have graciously declined their medal and gave it to B&S. It is the same reason I hate Sotnikova for stealing Yu Na's rightful gold. Yes she didn't give her scores, but she could have graciously handed Yu Na her rightly earned gold. Instead she not only disgracefully kept the gold, but even doubled and defended it and stated she skated way better than Yu Na (lol). That is why I was happy to hear her getting death threats to the point she was scared to leave Russia ever again. She brought it all on herself.
@garlandoenglish30003 жыл бұрын
@@gk891 Just of note, I was one of hundreds of thousands sending Sotnikova death threats on her IG page for not giving up the gold to Yu Na as she should have. In fact a group of with 500 plus members got together and regularly bombed her page until she shut it down for over a year. Klimova & Ponomarenko aren't as bad as that, but they too should have given up their medal to Blumberg & Siebert, reverse a wrong, although not totally as B&S really deserved even better for bronze, but atleast a part of a wrong.

@libralady1010 In fairness to Judy Blumberg I do think she was robbed of a medal in 84 though, probably even the silver. Klimova & Ponomarenko were already very good, but definitely new and not near their 86-88 or even 85 level yet, while B&B are one of the most overrated teams ever. Still as a commentator she should not be using it as a means to vent her own frusterations. If anything if she must show bitter on air she should be more bitter towards B&B who questionably beat them many times.
