What's remarkable is that this is an in-room recording of speakers playing another recording, and I'm listening to it on KZbin via Altec Lansing ACS43 speakers that are probably 30yo+ (with their full-range, 3" drivers), and still the differences are night and day.

Awesome comparison! I have the RF-7 III and absolutely love them. In my room I reduced the HF section by about -3dB which balanced it out perfectly and gave a much more live and balanced sound that I can listen to for hours. The RF-7 III is a speaker that doesn't leave me wanting more when it is set up well.

If you are having to ALTER your RF-7's, that is telling you that something is NOT right for you! I have been through this with my RP-280F's. I had to put a high quality L PAD on the horn to tame it back. We should not have to make these alterations.

Cool review. On a note to the comment of the Cornwall4’s being a little less clear on one cut, I bought my C-4’s about 5 months ago. My room is wider but definitely noticed with the grills off the music became a level or two clearer or cleaner. My wife even noticed and she normally can’t tell any differences. If you point the speakers directly towards you the sound becomes more intoxicating. If the recordings are tilted to much to treble you might put the covers back on. Pointing them more straight out takes away some intensity but fills the room up a bit better. If the recording is bad you’ll probably want to put something else on.

I agree, but lets bring in a set of Epic CF-3s or CF-4s. The Epic series were replaced by the KLF series because people complained that they didn't have "the Klipsch sound". As an owner of a pair of Heresies from 1980, and a pair of CF-3s from '94, I agree....the bright/harshness was removed.

Outstanding comparison between two excellent speakers! That said the Cornwall’s sound much more musical to my ear. Listening to this on my Cornwall’s as I write this now. The RF7’s while very accurate and neutral sound like you’re in the studio where the Cornwall’s sound like you’re front row center at the concert. This has been by experience with Cornwall’s since I worked for a Klipsch dealer here in Northern California in the 80’s and subsequently with my own pair. The big Heritage speakers are in a class of their own. Mid 80’s I’d demo Dire Straits, Money for Nothing and Simply Red, Sad old Red on the Cornies or K Horns and they’d sell themselves! The Cornwall’s were and are still are the best bang for the buck, IMHO. Most folks don’t have the space, room and $$ for the K Horns, the Cornwall’s were our best selling speakers. They don’t require a ton of power to open up and sing! I’ve been driving mine with a Carver M1.0T and CT-7 and they’ll make your ears bleed! For that matter my little SX-434 at 15WPC will drive them to very loud listening levels.

I agree on all counts! I think the biggest take away for me personally was that live vs studio sound. If you prefer one over the other, you'll probably lean toward one speaker over the other...and this goes for all of the Heritage vs 7 videos. -Jason

one question is what power amp avr or whatever it is youre using to power both hose beasts? finally i watched this video on my system. i definitely prefer the sound of the cornwall4 here. it just doesn't seem that fair of fight when youre not turning up the volume for the rf7iii or turning down the cornwalls so its equal spl across the board. but on a couple cuts i did that with my system and it did make a big difference but man i feel like that mic and youtube really aren't doing the rf7iiis justice in the least bit. awesome video tho guys really loved all of it. now if you throw a subwoofer into the mix i feel it would even things out even more. maybe thats where you can go next. also another nit pick i would say to use more different cuts instead of most of the same ones but i understand. i understand why people are saying the rf7s sound so thin compared to the cornwalls but let me tell you the rf7 do not sound thin in person when you have everything running great from gear to placemat. same with the cornwalls both would sound so much better in person and even better when you get them home. thanks again guys.

On the right side of the room you have the speakers placed in the wrong position for accurate stereo separation to the microphone. You want the 2 towers on each outside wall (equidistant from each other) [b/c the sound will bounce off the walls more evenly to the soundstage] and the two smaller boxes on the inside (again equidistant) Just try it. Thanks! 🙂
@TopShelfAudio
@TopShelfAudio Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! For accurate stereo separation, true. But giving one of each a corner allows for a more fair comparison in room. One pair in and one pair out give one an unfair advantage as well in other ways. Lots of trade offs when two are in the room simultaneously but we try to give the best representation possible. -Jason
@Artcore103
@Artcore103 Жыл бұрын
No you put the two towers on the outside because they're skinnier and let the cornwalls be closer to the outside than the rfs would be the other way around. Their method isn't ideal but it IS fair to each set.

Thanks for cranking up the volume on the RF-7 III here, definitely more closer in terms than I thought. I have to say that it might be that this is the first time to me it came across 100% what the both of you were talking about the differences of the two speakers. Definitely the "Studio VS Live" experience, and the power hungry needs of RF-7 rears its head here. - As the Cornwall IV VS RF-7 vs Forte IV is on my desk next to ponder on hard and heavy, I have to literally play through all the types of music I listen to, and see which one comes on top. Both products are superb, both are different, like the Hellcat and a Corvette. The controlled RF-7 though... It's starting to be more and more tempting for me, even though the Cornwall IV is more "in your face". This so depends on what you listen to and "how you're feeling". Gotta go and listen to the blasted thing(s)! Thank you PHT TV!

@thomasstedtenfeldt5051
@thomasstedtenfeldt5051 2 жыл бұрын
The Cornwalls play 102 db @ 1 metre @ 1 watt. So.. 2? I have the fortes with a primaluna HP that has 2x70 ish watts. I can't crank the volume to more than 9 o'clock and they have 99 db sensitivity.
@TopShelfAudio
@TopShelfAudio 2 жыл бұрын
It's a beast for sure and it's super efficient. It can run off of minimal power.... but it doesn't shy away from bigger power at all, and headroom is your friend with any system. "more is better" is great for that. Your amp playing at 25% to achieve your desired output will last a lot longer and run a lot better/cleaner than your amp that's redlining 24/7. All of that said, there is no specific wattage I recommend. I would look more at the cleanliness aspects of your amp as heritage speakers are super revealing. Clean power > More power. I know this doesn't exactly answer your question but hope it helps. -Jason

Im mildly concerned with the placement of them bad boys. Are the RF-7's just a bit too close to the wall? Only because of the rear ports, I would have had them closer to the corners and pulled out a bit more as well as a bit of toe in.
@TopShelfAudio
@TopShelfAudio 2 жыл бұрын
We are limited to a degree on spacing due to there being the multiple sets up there. We would for sure organize differently if we were creating a permeant setup and optimize the corners. That said, spacing to the wall we adjusted. It may not look like it due to the wide angle lens, but they are about 18-24" off of the back wall.

It depends on the type of sound you like but generally speaking the Heritage line sounds more open, dynamic and realistic than not just the RF7's but most other speakers on the market at any price. Haters will automatically scream horn coloration without ever hearing them and if you're any exceptionally picky person it can be heard faintly on certain tracks but then there is some form of coloration in every speaker you will ever listen to. It's just with horns you see the horn and many can't separate what they see from what they hear. But the fools putting their hands to their mouth and shouting like an old megaphone have not heard the newest Heritage line speakers because they sound nothing like that. Nor do the newest AvanteGardes. But old biases die hard. If you just plop yourself in front of the Cornwall IV's and let the music play and you're not one of those guys who thinks he can hear a mouse fart in the recording then you'll be happy. They do better in a bigger room though.

your speakers should be placed on the longer wall

Thanks for watching! If we did it that way, we would be limited distance from speaker wise, and would have wall reflection coming off of one pair of speakers and open air in the other. This room is about 40ft long and 14 wide. -Jason

That's what I get confused in speaker companies if they're looking to get that extra 10% out of a speaker why don't they do better crossover Parts instead of sandcast resistors and iron core conductors spend the money there also maybe $15 differencein in each resistor ... but I see a guy on KZbin here has an upgrade for the rf7 it be 900 dollars upgraded crossover parts

Speaker companies tend to measure things, and if the measurements doesn't support the increased cost, then they don't spend money on it. That's just how it works.

That's the point to a degree. It's 100% apples to apples. The Heritage line shines with even minimal power. The 7s need a bit more to really get that extra umph. This was a test not only of the speakers themselves but how they each handle the power dealt. -Jason

As a final word out of my thoughts here it is if you buy the RF 7 III you are definitely going to need subwoofers.. and honestly it would cost you about the same just to put the money into the Cornwell 4. Where you will not need Subs.. look at the financial difference between the two and you will discover the reality

Cornwalls don't really dig very deep. Very flat speaker, low bass is hardly it's strong point. I realize everybody thinks they are bass monsters due to the 15" woofer but not really. If anything the RF-7's can slam more.

All about air movement. Tight and concise is nice. Then you switch to a massive air moving transducer. This provides a more audience oriented experience. The bass blooms and the the room fills with sound. Is the bass time aligned and fast on and off? Hell no. Less control in precision but that good old concert vibe. Sonic perfection has ZERO to do with the human visceral response to sound and the way it brings its uniqueness to your ears

Thanks for watching! We are somewhat limited on music selection as, we can only share the parts where we listen to music we have the rights to play. Just as a note though, these are primarily created for the commentary which is based on a long list of tracks played off camera. Unfortunately we can't play those parts due to copyright restrictions. -Jason

You know I bet you guys if you were polite and asked permission you could play something better than what you're playing for bass response such as deadmau5.. wouldn't hurt to ask permission now would it all they can do is say no... So do it and get it done I'll tell you something listening to anything that sounds like what you listening to at the beginning of this video reminds me of the 80s.. this music really isn't Rock.. rock is more like deep purple or Robin trower are any number of other bands similar
