Solve a complete Microsoft Power Automate Desktop project with me today. The video teaches you advanced PAD step-by-step. You'll learn to save data from a web browser to Excel in the six use cases. We'll handle errors, write log messages, make HTTP Requests, parse JSONs, and much more. Download the course data to get the course Excel book: andersjensen.org/microsoft-po... We create a variable with the project path in, as this is best practice.
2:55 Web Scraping to Excel - Structured Data
The Launch Excel action opens an Excel instance. Use a variable for the document path, as this is best practice. We untick the Make instance visible, as this is not necessary. The Close Excel action closes the Excel instance again. The Set active Excel worksheet makes sure we read the correct Excel sheet. Remember to specify that the first line in the sheet contains column names. Use subflows to organize your project. To open a new browser, use the Launch new Chrome action, and as with Excel, we'll close the instance with a Close web browser action. The first thing we automate in the browser is a click on an element with the Click link on web page action. Here we perform a check if a button is clicked or not. You'll have to learn to edit selectors to perform advanced web automation. Now we are ready to read the Excel, do the web search, and write the results back to Excel. To loop through the Excel data, we use a For each. The Extract data from web page action is used to extract structured data from a web page.

We choose to extract the web data to a DataTable since we can easily manipulate the data afterward and pick the elements we want to use. We can create a DataTable with headers and rows with a simple Set variable. Then, with another Set variable, we add data to the DataTable. We use the current date and time to name our resulting Excel book, so we log and don't overwrite existing data.

Great video. I do find the contains function to be very useful when an element contains text. To click on the language buttons you could try button:contains('English'). That would reduce the logic needed to get the correct element!

Wonderful course. One area that is puzzling me in regard to the CSS selection process in Power Automate Desktop, is the use of the greater than sign. In purse CSS, that means child element, not next element. So when we have div:contains("something") > div... I'm expecting to process through child elements of the first. Not the next element. Other than that, its all good.

If you try to run the Jasonprocess-part with 50 CVRnumbers, the flow will fail with the StatusCode 200 and WebServiceResponse "{"error":"QUOTA_EXCEEDED","message":"Your quota has been exceeded...}". I am trying to scrape linked in and get the information like title, number of followers, webpage, and the number of followers for a given name which is my input. can you suggest some tips / steps as there are 2 types of pages, one with the name as it is and another when there are many people with the same name. my Robot was working fine and getting the data in the internal data table , but is not showing that today and has got corrupt after I tried some steps, any guidance in this regard will greatly help. thank you.

I made a loop for the BOT to enter a link to extract the data, come back to enter another link to extract another data, but instead of it incrementing the lines both in the table and in Excel, it opens several files and saves one in each file, like me can I do to put each extracted file one under the other?

Note: I had to add a "wait 6 seconds" for my page to load - the run didn't have time to scrape the page before continuing to the next step. It caused my results table to be blank.

Hey Emily. Yeah, you could/should do a check for the page you want to scrape, when you observe problems. You can use the same approach, as I do at around 21:52, where I check for English. Just change the English to e.g. an element of the table, e.g. CVR. I hope this helps. Kind regards, Anders

Is it possible to get data from a website that states that it doesn't store the data, rather makes computations when you click next page or page number from the website? There are also many many many pages of data. trillions. could that be put into a file that can be sorted?

just to make sure about power apps I can create apps but for other people to use they pay per user/month ? thats a bit expensive for company has 100 employees can create the web app once but will take longer to develop of course but on the long run will be cheaper

Make sure to go into task manager and ensure that all of the Excel processes have been stopped. If the flow errors after opening Excel it will not be closed.

I follow your step to "Extract Data from Webpage". However, the data can't be extracted into DatafromWebpage. At your video 47:35 or kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYOYdp2pnamih7c. I'm using Chrome. So the data can't be written to excel. how to fix it?

I fixed it finally. It's because the webpage need time to get the data from the website. I set a wait 10s process before the "Extract Data from Webpage" process, then it works. Of course, as instructed by Anders, there should have some webpage variable to show that the data is refreshed. But I don't know what it is. Can Anders or others to give me hints !

I kind of like your courses, the material you have is great, however with power automate desktop continually updating, half the stuff doesn't work. On your teaching, your voice is both pleasant and irritating, I understand that English is your second language and you are trying to emphasize certain words, to me it comes across as very irritating, I think you need a more natural flow of words and that will come with practice. I think you do a great job otherwise.
