Dr. Landow, I have been on a variety of psychiatric medications for the last 20 years. I'm doing very well now with just some minor bumps in the road. I especially enjoy your non-biased approach in describing medications. You just convey the facts - nothing more, nothing less. I thoroughly enjoy your videos and like to educate myself for my own benefit. Thank you again, and keep those videos coming!

Thank you for putting together an unbiased video about this particular drug. I suffer from both RLS and anxiety; I take 0.25 ODT TID, but only really take PRN. Thank you for defending the usefulness of this drug and listing the risks. It's not a cure-all, but it also should not be ignored by practicing physicians just because of sensational news stories. @@Seek147. just be careful even with not taking it every day. This drug is the strongest Benzo. It can cause nervous system damage even if you don't take it everyday. It's a very powerful drug. There hsve reports of people taking it for a week sn getting a injured nervous system. This drug csn damage the gabs receptors in your brain an threw out your body, the gaba is what calms you down. This drug increases the gabs siginanftly an csn damage it. Wich can take years to recover from. I took klonopopin for 9 years everyday an the doctor cold tirkdyed me an ive been in severe nervous system damage for 9 months. An it's still bad. I've actually heard reports of people taking it for 2 day an suffering for long time because of it. Be very careful with this drug it is not safe. It is a man made chemical designed to get people depdntant for profit. Honestly you should just stay away from it completely. Find natural ways to help your anxiety .it might not work as fast as you want, but it will work just as good whrn it does sn you won't have to worry about hurting your nervous system. Also this drug increase the risk or dementia by 50 percent. You don't beleive me? Look it up for yourself. Truth be told, this drug is a hard-core drug, an it gets you high. That's why people suffer so much. Anything thst makes you feel that good always has consequences. Can't say I didn't warn you. You play you pay. This drug has stolen my joy or any sense of peace whatsoever. You dont need this drug my freind, society has painted thus picture that people ' need" stuff like this, they say, " well its just like people with blood pressure problems need a drug so do people with anxiety" . It's a lie! Before any of these benzos were created the world was fine. Matter of fact more people have mental illness now since these drugs were created. There are effective natural ways to help anxiety. Plant the seed an watch it grow, don't judt by the whole tree cause it will rot! The doctors tell you take it as prescribed because they know thsts how you'll get depentslanr on it. They are drug dealers. If they think giving people a drug that gets thrm high is what helps anxiety thrn are delusional! Don't fall for the devils tricks. I hope you stop taking it. Its not a good drug. Since lock down I stopped clonazepam too. But soon into lock down got a bad itch, like got a neuropathic (nerve) itch where you feel them firing, annoying sensation, and distracting. This is the only main tangible issue I have. Don't know if it is because of stress or clonazepam (I think it is stress tbh, as my dose of clonazepam was minimal.. ). Been off it for 3 months but still got the issue... Any say on that??

I’ve been using Klonopin for a year and it’s improved my life. Unlike Xanax or Ativan, Klonopin is much longer and smoother-acting. It doesn’t hit you hard and leave you. It builds up in your system over time to help anxiety, panic disorder, social anxiety, etc. It’s also great for my muscle spasms and muscle pain. It’s not nearly anywhere as addictive as other benzodiazepines. I stopped taking it for 2 weeks and had no withdrawal symptoms. Just take it as needed, as prescribed, and responsibly, and you’ll be fine! 😊👍

I recently had a severe breakdown over tinnitus (have long had OCD), and got myself into such a horrific anxiety loop that I went to the ER. My APRN prescribed this for me to bridge the gap while my SSRI increase kicks in, and its been a miracle. It's very much helped me break that vicious anxiety loop and helped me feel a lot more normal. I've only taken it a couple times, and even with it clearly worn off, I feel a lot more stable. The ear ringing isn't frightening me as much, and I feel much more hopeful about getting better. Dont plan on being on it long, but for the short time I have, it's been a godsend.

Just so everyone on here knows...when he says it may lose it's effectiveness in "as little as 3 months" he's referring to seizure prevention aspect of this drug NOT lose it's effectiveness for panic attacks and anxiety- seizure prevention is a totally different problem then anxiety and panic attacks. I've taken this drug for panic attacks and anxiety EVERY NIGHT for over 12 years now and only had to increase my dosage from a half a milligram a night to 1 milligram a night. Before this I dropped out of college from being panic stricken while giving presentations or just from the 1st day of class where you had to introduce yourself. It got so bad i had trouble getting haircuts or even doing activities with my family. This drug right here after trying 35 different drugs probably over the past 20 years FIXED me and I hope others on here will see this and speak to their DR about this drug and get the help you need.

You must be from KY too ... LOL ... The doctors and nurse practitioners around here are benzo phobic too. I only take 1 mg twice a day and as soon as a doctor finds out about it they treat me like a heroin addict and then proceed to encourage me to ween myself off of it. And my response to that is "Why in the h*** am I going to stop taking the only medicine that has helped me with my anxiety for the last 17 years?" All this B.S. started around 2012 and 2013 because of the "Opioid Epidemic" Just because opioid addicts started mixing benzos with their pain pills and overdosed does not mean the rest of us responsible people have to pay for their mistakes.

I have panic disorder with agoraphobia and 1 mg of clonazepam has helped me immensely, unlike Xanax which was pure hell for me. I would note that it is used in conjunction with Zoloft and carefully monitored by a psychiatrist. It's prescribed as needed and only scheduled if I'm having a bad flare up, which isn't very often. I might take it once or twice per week, sometimes not at all.

This is a very interesting and informative tutorial Doctor. I just received a prescription for klonopin yesterday for my anxiety and severe insomnia that I've been suffering for months. The doctor wrote me 60, 1 mg tablets with a refil. However, she reccomended me to a psychiatrist because she was a general practitioner and could'nt prescribe that medication for long term useage. I know I need this medicine as being diagnosed with bi polar and anxiety disorder for years now. This klonopin made me very tranquil and happy. After about an hour of taking 2, I was bumping into my furniture and laughing hysterically lol.

Yes...yes you do. It's good stuff. There are two brands and one is way better than the other. There's the Teva brand that CVS carries and then there is the Accord brand that's made in China and is garbage. If you don't shop either of these two places ask the pharmacist before getting it filled which brand they have and if they say Accord then leave and shop till you find one that has TEVA. You can also call each pharmacy and they'll tell you over the phone.

Honestly the side effects of this medication and other Benzo's seem a lot less than even SSRI's. I think the main problem with these medications is the addiction and especially substance abuse.. But what about those people who don't abuse it or use it sparingly.. There are some people who take a low dose for decades and it works for them. Someone wrote an article once that if used properly and for people with real anxiety/panic disorder who aren't substance abusers, the benzo's work the best with the least side effects.. I wonder if the doctor would comment on this.

I have been on klonopin for 5 years and am on week 2 off of it. It took a year-long taper, and is different from SSRI's. The withdrawal is mental and very physical in nature with this drug. Having a CNS that is rebounding off benzo use is scary and life-threatening. I also take Remeron which is an antidepressant and when I lower the dose it is just as extreme in a different way. I agree with you and used sparingly they are the best and have no unpleasant side effects really. I may incorporate benzos later but never taken every day in abundance ever again as prescribed.

The fact is that benzos are short term tools and should never be taken for more than 3 weeks. And im not even saying this because of dependance nor abuse, but for the fact that long term use of benzos will only worsen the anxiety of the patient. I think anxiety is mainly du to environmental factors and the best way to deal with it is through personnal support like family and friends, through professional help like psychiatrist and ultimutaly through a complete change of the problematic environment, even if its mean resigning from a job or ending a relentionship. Because if you only face a problematic situation by taking benzos and not adressing the core issues, it will only get back to you in a much stronger way because of the addition of the disrupted natural functioning of the GABA system by these benzos.

Panic Attacks and Anxiety - Paxil 4 Klonopin 9 Ive been taking Klonopin at the same dose for 10 years and took Paxil in both CR and IR for 8 years before starting Klonopin. These two drugs shouldn't even be labeled in the same category. Everyone knows that panic and anxiety is controlled by Gaba in which benzos increase the amount of, Paxil and SSRIs are don't touch GABA but rather increases Serotonin. I have 1 side effect with Klonopin which is mild constipation. On Paxil I had increased anxiety, night sweats, weight gain, more nervousness as well as others. Klonopin works and kicks in within 30 minutes and Paxil takes 3 weeks. These should not even be compared. Thanks for the helpful history anyway DR

The worst part about it is you need it once you're on it. The rebound anxiety you can get is fucked. Feels like your brain is in fight or flight mode for no reason. That said there's nothing like it for social anxiety. Benzos just have this effect in anxious people that the feeling of not being so anxious is its own euphoria. Now you need it to sleep or feel normal. Luckily it's long lasting but valium I think is better for that. I'm rambling but great video

I've been prescribed, over my lifetime, almost every benzo out there and clonazepam 0.5 (2x day) is by far the best one for panic attacks, extreme tension episodes and anxiety. Of course, I can only speak for myself and how it reacts for me. Also, I have very little, if any, side-effects from taking this medication. The only one annoying side-effect was when I was taking this drug (3x a day) and that was varying frequencies of nighttime incontinence. Once I cut it down to 2x a day, that side-effect went away. I've been on this drug for many years with little to no tolerance issues. Thank gawd I found a solution to my lifetime issues. It's given me my life back.

I was taking 3x a day but told my Dr that I wanted to cut back to 2x a day. I think, in part, that it was due to my age and it takes longer for the pills to become broken down by the body. I must be one of the lucky ones, as I've been taking Klonopin for three years now, 0.5mg x2 per day. That's two tablets. Most days I try to take a little less than that. But I haven't felt a need for a stronger dose and only occasionally for more frequent. When this guy said 8-12 mg per day that shocked me. I couldn't stay awake at that dose. The first time I was put on that drug many years ago, the Psychiatrist put me on 1mg x 3 per day. So 3 times what I'm on now. I lowered myself to only 0.5mg in the first dose because it was making me tired and I had trouble at work. I actually got lectured for that, and had to *convince her to LOWER the dose*. That was in 1998 when benzos were still "all the rage" among doctors. As for recreational use, I just don't see how that's possible. I take it to feel normal, not "high".

Once this realization is made and you commit to this serious drug you can treat the whole experience like taking any other medicine. You just have to be careful because benzos demand a slow taper. Just causs your doctors tells you take it a certain way doesent mean you should. You should do research for yourself an quit trusting these doctors so much. Your body can get depentant on this drug after 2 weeks of use. An it can cause serious nueroligical issues in a very short amount of time. Saying you take it as prescribed, " with all due respect" doesent mean shit. Thousands upon thousands of people who say they took them as prescribed srs suffering right now because of benzos. They may hsve took it as directed by there doctors , but that doesent really mean shit when the doctors are the ones who are responspible for thousands upon thousands. Possibly millions of people suffering from this drug. An you wouldn't want people to be on this drug either if you knew what kind of horrible suffering they can cause. So how bout doing some homework first before spouting your ignorance. I hope you don't have to go threw any suffering from this drug. Becauss you'll be changing your mind real quick. There are several studies that hsve shown how dangerous these drugs are. Wether yiu tske as prescribed or not is irrevelant. I hope your one of the lucky ones that doesent hsve to go threw the hell these things xan put you threw.

@@dustygatrell-ru7tg Respectfully, it doesn’t matter to me whatsoever what you think. Secondly, it’s pretty ironic that you’re telling us to stop trusting these doctors as you echo doctors who say this medication leads to neurological damage. Did you do your own research on that fact? Oh no, you’re trusting doctors 🤣🧠

@@secretbeach999 it aint got nothing to do with what I think. Ive went the hell that these drugs cause. I've known prople personally myself that went threw hell for a year from these drugs. An there are thousands of people on the internet that have went threw the hell these drugs causs. An they took it as prescribed. It's not what I think. It's what the reality is. You wouldnt want people taking this trash either if you knew anything at all aboit the reality of it. So I know what thess drugs do. You think all those people ars lying about it? People have literally gotten punch biopsy an found severe cases of small fiber nueropathy caused by benzos. Anyone who knows anything about this drug known that they are bad for your brain an nervous system. People have died an had seizures from thess drugs. An msny have commited suicide. I know someone personally who has done this. So keep thinking that thus drug Is okay. Reality is its not. You putting your original post up there is extremely ignorant. Becauss you have no idea the suffering benzos can csuse. Theres a reason so people are saying not to take them. You may not care what I think. I've been on 6mg klonopin daily for over 10 years for seizures(they just kept raising it until the seizure activity stopped).plus 90mg morphine for chronic pain which their trying to change to 16 mg Subutex for chronic pain.Anyways running out of klonopin isn't near as bad of a withdrawal as running out of the narcotic painkillers because absence of Klonopin doesn't cause me not to be able to sleep or eat where running out of the narcotic can cause me to not sleep or eat for up to 10 days.but the doctors say I will probably be on both the rest of my life along with clonidine to treat my life treating blood pressure along with cardiomegaly (enlarged heart).

Remember withdrawal pain may vary between substances but the killer with the benzodiazepines is the random seizures from withdrawal. It plays with the CNS and can rebound and has a reputation. I was on klonopin a long time before I got off and the withdrawals that worried me was a very rapid heart rate, headaches, no appetite, brain shocks and zaps. It was not safe.

I was on klonopin for 28 years and my doctor took me off them 11 months ago. Honestly I still cant function without them. So that's why I would love to go back on them. I did not experience too many withdrawals. I guess I was just lucky. However these meds are very addictive.

I see so many people beating on this doctor for the silliest things... All the Doctor is doing is simply explaining the drug facts based on data. This is what doctor's do.. and he may be a different type of doctor (meaning somebody else said he is a dermatologist I think) that's fine!.. does not mean he doesn't know his stuff. Because I would say obviously... He does... I just didn't like that ppl were bashing this guy it seemed like and all he is trying to do is inform the public of a very serious medication. Anyways.. thanks doc for the info.. look forward to watching some more stuff.

Certainly, anyone prescribing medication should be monitored. Why aren't doctors and all others in the medical profession monitored? All licenses should be renewed periodically. Even a driver's license needs to be renewed periodically.

In my experience it’s best to avoid all controlled substances if you can. At least never take them for more than a few days. Withdrawal is extremely unpleasant and depending on what you’re taking can last many weeks. I’m not a doctor but I’ve learned to take these agents seriously and use them sparingly if I need them. In fact I always ask for the minimum dose

start out with the lowest dose for seizures and if you have to increase then ok...being allergic anaphylaxis from many seizures meds...this is clearly the best answer
