@richarddepinay2256 Well, I would qualify that a bit. For instance, the Shinkansen line map presented seems to say that the Nozomi service only goes from Tokyo to Osaka. It doesn't, of course, it goes all the way to Hakata (i.e. Fukuoka). So you can of course take a Nozomi from Kyoto/Shin-Osaka/Shin-Kobe/Okayama/etc. to Hakata. I'm also surprised that nothing is said about whether the tickets bought on Klook are more expensive (and, if so, by how much) compared to when bought directly from JR in Japan. Same goes for cancellation/change of reservation conditions. Influencers who benefit financially from recommending a product or a service *always* make it look good, so take everything with that extra grain of salt, just like your mom always told you to 😉.

Heads up to those trying with oversize luggage: I tried to book a reserved seat with luggage via klook and you won't know if you got the extra luggage until the money is taken and the seat is confirmed. If you want to cancel the booking and try again, like the video suggests, there is a cost of £4 per booking. Very poor system to have you roll the dice every time, I wouldn't recommend

We just booked our tickets from Japan to Osaka with no issues. But when I booked the return tickets, they put us in the very front row when we asked for Oversized luggage seats. I went to cancel them like you suggested, so that I could try and book a different train, but there is a cancellation fee once you receive the confirmation, but you don’t know what seat you are assigned until you get the confirmation! The agent on the chat was not helpful and tried to make me feel stupid. I was excited to use Klook, but I won’t be using them again. You might want to warn others of the cancellation fee. All they said is that it’s not their fault and to just pay the baggage fee. But otherwise, we’ve enjoyed your videos. 😊

When we were in Japan 3 weeks ago we used SmartEX to book the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Hiroshima, then back to Kyoto and then Tokyo. We reserved Green Car seats on each trip. We received QR codes that we scanned at the gates with no issues and issued seat tickets same as what you illustrated in your video. SmartEX was easy to use and there were no issues. Even got some discounts based on how much in advance we booked. Klook seemed a bit more complicated, likely it was similar though.

I was in Japan a few weeks ago and Klook was very smooth and straightforward. The only thing that was still confusing was finding the right shinkansen platform! Hi, yes, through Klook you can choose to have a seat on the side to get a view of MT Fuji ( weather permitting ). But please keep in mind that you are traveling during one of the most busiest times of the year. So the seat may not be available but you won't know this until after klook has purchased the ticket ( since they need to purchase the ticket ). Worst case, you issue for a refund but you will not be refunded the surcharge. You can also check on SmartEX. but you can only purchase once within the 30 day window of travel.

I can confirm that the QR codes were available in late September. My family and I used them for 8 trips we did between TYO, KYO and NGO. Very simple and paperless. We all used our phones at the gates. ONE THING TO REMEMBER HOWEVER FOR PEOPLE NOT USED TO THE GATES - YOU HAVE TO USE A GATE MARKED "QR". YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE IT ON THE GATES MARKED IC.

Hi, there is no shinkansen station in Nara but taking the shinkansen is still the fastest way to get to Nara. So you can take the shinkansen from Tokyo or Shinagawa station then get off at Kyoto Station. From Kyoto Station take the Kintetsu Limited Express Train to Kintetsu Nara Station. good luck!

I have learned a lot from your videos for my upcoming trip. Since this video mentions luggage, I do have a few questions regarding the Shinkansen and luggage. 1. Would a backpack count toward the second piece of allowed luggage? If someone in my party has a suitcase, a carry on, and a personal item (backpack)….would that be a problem? What are people supposed to do if they arrive with a third piece? 2. How strict are they with the oversized luggage? My suitcase is literally 5 centimeters over the limit, at 165 including handle and wheels. We’re going to use the JRP and I’m stressing out over the idea of trying to get the reserved seats when we’re in a time crunch to get to Kyoto from Haneda before the last train of the night. Hi 1) no one is going to ask any questions unless you really stand out so no need to worry :) 2) oversized luggage rule should be followed because it is not safe to put that large in the overhead compartment. Since you are riding late your train will most likely have plenty of seats available unless you are traveling during a holiday. Hope this helps!

You can buy Shinkansen tickets for multiple people within one Klook account. In the Klook app, when you go to "My Bookings" and click on the booking it will show each ticket. Then click "See e-ticket" to reveal each QR code. At the Shinkansen ticket gate you can scan the first QR code, let that person walk through the ticket gate, scan the next QR code, etc. We are working on a video showing this!

Just wanted to share my experience using QR Code with Shinkansen. So booked and obtained the QR code from Klook. Everything worked fine until I got the gate. First of all, this is NOT a criticism for Klook. No, NOT a criticism for Klook

Now, first I thought to myself, "oh was it because I rode from Akihabara to Tokyo station I _probably_ hadn't beeped out of that ride yet?" Well, i got my answer on the return trip from Osaka...NO, it wasn't the reason. You see, in Shin-Osaka station, JUST the QR code was enough to get me in so I thought my guess was right. But when I tried to beep out of the gate at Tokyo station, i again triggered the red signal. The worker then did completely different thing to get me through...he just gave me a slip that details the ride. I have no idea what the reason was...and again I wouldn't expect to get an explanation from the worker with limited English....overall, the JR ticketing system is a disaster. It is not logical and it is confusing. Japan is still awesome though.

Hi, thanks for sharing your experience. It certainly can be confusing and frustrating at times. I believe a lot of the issues are caused by there being 6 different JR companies and not one. So each one has their own way, own budget and own ideas. Osaka is JR West and Tokyo is JR East.

Hello! We are traveling from Tokyo to Kyoto, party of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids under 10yo). We plan to choose green car and prefer to stay together either accross or front/back. If we choose either window or aisle, does that mean we will be separated? So our option maybe mt fuji side? I am not sure about oversize luggage seats but it looks like they sit together at the very back but then we dont want to take the space from people who actually need them. Do you think we can just purchase at the booth once we arrive at the station? Will we be able to select seats then? Hi. If you want to be seated together, you don’t need to select aisle or window. That’s optional. You could choose Mt. Fuji side for a chance at D or E seats. Please note that Green Car only has one price, so children ages 6-11 will pay full adult price. Whether you can buy your tickets from a machine the day before depends on whether it’s a busy time of year or not. Hi, the price is very comparable since Klook usually has coupon codes. If you must absolutely have a reserved seat I would choose Smart EX. Otherwise, it is usually easier to purchase on Klook since they offer a very wide selection of payment options.

Do you know if the Hakata Station in Fukuoka is large? Is it similar to Tokyo Station where you suggest arriving an hour and a half before your train leaves to figure out where you are going? It has been a long time since we were in Hakata Station, but I am certain that the only stations that comes close to the size and confusion of Tokyo is Shinjuku Station then Osaka Station. Hi. Klook is only for purchasing Shinkansen tickets, not for making seat reservations for those who have a JR Pass. You can make seat reservations at a JR ticket office or through a ticketing machine.

Yes, it's possible that you won't need to scan anything until you reach the Shinkansen gate and scan your QR code. The gates should have a sign above them labeled "Shinkansen Tracks".

Hey, just wondering how this works if I book tickets for 4 people (my wife, 2 kids and myself) via Klook... do I get a single QR code that I scan multiple times for each person? You will get 4 QR codes, one per person. Within the Klook app when you go to Bookings and click on the train booking, it will show each ticket. Click “see e-ticket” on each to reveal the QR code. At the gate I recommend using the metal flap that helps the QR code scan better. First scan a QR code for a child and have them walk through the gate and pick up their slip. Then the next child, then adult, and last the adult with Smartphone containing all the QR codes. You should each end up with your own slip. We’re working on a video showing this!

Hi question on transferring from local line to Shinkansen. If you start your journey using IC card on e.g. Yamanote line Shinjuku to Shinagawa. How do you ensure you complete this trip on the IC card before entering the Shinkansen gate at Shinagawa station using your Klook QR? many thanks.

Hi, great question. In most instances you have to exit the local line. However, if you encounter a situation where you are able to go straight to the shinkansen gate, please do not. Instead go find the exit gate for the local line first and tap out. Then proceed to the shinkansen gate with your QR code. If you don't , the next time you try to use your IC card it will beep red at you and you will need to see an attendant and explain the whole situation which might not go over well since you will be in a different city since you road the shinkansen.

I think this is important for new users of the Klook QR, as far as I can see there is a shinkansen gate transfer within the local train network which you can enter before fully exiting the station (preventing you from finishing the local route with the IC card). sorry for the late reply, if you are coming from Kawaguchiko Station, you can buy bus tickets at the station. There are a few a day depending on the season. The buses are nice and smooth but you might need to make a transfer at Gotemba.

Hi, good question. Both are now very close in features but Smart EX has an edge as you can actually choose your seats! However, the main issue with Smart EX is that it doesn't work for everyone. Often credit cards are not accepted.

Hi. Special seat reservations that include oversized baggage area are only required on the Tokaido, Sanyo, Kyushu Shinkansen lines. From Tokyo to Nagano is the Hokuriku Shinkansen, which does not require such reservations. Instead, there should be luggage racks located inside the train cars. ❄️ Heidi

Hi, you can purchase all the tickets but each person is supposed to have their own QR Code. So you would need to download the QR codes from the app or the email then send to the other users. If a person doesn't have a mobile phone you can also print the QR code and scan that.

Yes, you can, the seats are on both sides. Really, you can see Mt Fuji from any seat on the Shinkansen as the windows are very large. Only if you want to take photos/video do you really need the window seat. But you could also go to the vestibule as the windows there are usually free.

Yes, as soon as you are issued the QR code it will show just like in the video. If you are not traveling during a holiday or during rush hour then you might consider riding in non-reserved. This will allow you to choose any available seat. If not traveling during a busy time it will not be a problem getting seats together as there are literally over a hundred shinkansen trains on this route per day.

When you print your ticket at the machine there are different options of what might print out. It might print one ticket that includes: base fare + surcharge + seat reservation for Green Class, plus a receipt. Or it might print two tickets. Or it might even print 3 tickets, with base fare, surcharge, and seat reservation all separated. It can be confusing! Hi. At a Shinkansen station along this route, at least one of the Shinkansen gates will accept QR code. Under the sign “Shinkansen Tracks” there is a row of automatic ticket gates. Some accept paper tickets, some are labelled IC card, and at least one is for QR code.

Klook really does not make easier. It makes it harder. I am in Japan at the moment. This is from someone who has been travelling to Japan since 2008. Each Shinkansen station has a different system just to confuse things. When Klook says you can use a QR at both entry and exit gates it’s bullshit. Some you can use the QR code and some you need a physical tickets. Or a combination of both. Or your Suica card. Or the station personal give you a paper ticket just so you can show at the JR gate staff so they can let you through. Best advice I can give you is just buy your physical tickets from a JR office. I take it Kenshoquest hasn’t been to Japan since they introduced this new system?? Unfortunately all my tickets here a booked with Klook so I have to put up with this nightmare.

Hi, if you are referring to the whole 7-Day JR Pass the answer is no. The reason is the whole JR Pass allows the use of not only shinkansen trains but also many local and limited express trains and other shinkansens all over Japan. Therefore, if you get the JR Pass you must still use paper tickets. This actually applies to any of the regional pass throughout Japan as well.

I was planning to get JR pass for my 3 week trip with an early Tokyo to Hakata leg. Why does Nozomi cost ~8000 extra for JR pass holders? A Nozomi ticket on Klook is basically the same price as the Hikari/Sakura ticket but 1 hour quicker. This is really frustrating. I was also under the assumption that Nozomi wasn't accessible to non-JR pass holders due to the wording on the JR pass website.

Hi, the reason why the Nozomi is not included is because the Nozomi is owned by a private company, not part of the JR companies. So if you buy as a single journey the tickets are the same since you are purchasing as a separate entity

Hi, this is a great question and we don't have a definite answer since we haven't tried it as a family! However, in general, each person is supposed to have their own ticket, digital or not. But I'm not saying that what you are suggesting won't work. You can certainly try it. But if all of your kids don't have phones you might want to print out the QR codes and scan that just in case the gate attendant doesn't allow it. If you book through Klook they do their best to put seats together. this is usually not an issue. However, there is a possibility, such as during rush hour or during a holiday that your seats may not be together. Unfortunately, You do not get to choose your seat. There is another system that you might want to try called SmartEx that allows choosing seats.
