@@stonedfinn3649 Origi isn't a great striker by any means. He's scored important goals for sure, but he's not consistent enough outside of big games. His touch is heavy at times, his movement isn't good enough, and he's not improved anywhere near as much as you'd like since we signed him. Outside of a backup left back and Lovren, he's the main person that needs replacing IMO.

Klopp’s entire tactical philosophy is centered around defense. The high-press and Geigenpressing to win the ball back within seconds of losing possession informs how Liverpool begin their attacking phase. This becomes less important as they face deeper-playing and defensive teams that freely allow them possession, but is the first thing that Klopp instill in his teams.

What Klopp has mastered is using the whole field. Long balls are just part of the arsenal. Liverpool has developed far past relying on full metal football to discomfort the opposition, and now knows how to ratchet up and down the pressing on the fly to get almost as many counter opportunities while more efficiently using their energy to grind down the opposition. Few teams has even a prayer to cope, except by using a low block; but if the wingbacks are not consistently pressured they have to survive 20 accurate crosses to hope for a 0-0 result. ManU, Watford, Atletico have shown such tactics are not hopeless, but they are certainly not easy to execute.
@tyo007
@tyo007 3 жыл бұрын
Other than the switch, Liverpool defensive line are very comfortable with the ball and pressure resistant. In addition that, there are Henderson and sometimes Milner who are able to support the defensive duty. Problem is that if two of the defensive partnership (either GK DM or CB) got injured, they would've got some problem and had to adjust.
@jasonwong07081
@jasonwong07081 4 жыл бұрын
minor addition: vvd moves up the pitch even as a midfield role to make runs to receive crosses or make additional passes into the penalty area when they are chasing goals while the other centreback in the lineup (eg. matip/gomez) tends to stagger behind vvd as a lone defender, so when opposition teams go on the counter, the other centreback can stall 1v1 situations so that vvd's quick pace enables him to catch up and help defend its an excellent video by all means, really hope you get more subscribers and make more videos like this!

Great manager, great team, one of the best ever seen in football. Teams simply can’t cope with the speed, intensity and directness, at times they look like they have no weakness which is scary. Teams will be sitting extra deep against them with more bodies next season, so it’ll be interesting to see how they cope.
@ComradeOgilvy1984
@ComradeOgilvy1984 4 жыл бұрын
Simply sitting deep has been attempted by the majority of teams for the last 2-3 seasons, and it usually ends very poorly. Solskjaer showed that it is possible to pressure the wingbacks while maintaining a classic low block. I think it has been apparent for a while that some variant of that defense is the weakness of both Liverpool and ManCity, as demonstrated by ManU and Norwich respectively. Klopp needs someone like Keita who can confidently carry ball through traffic to the top of the box and cause the defense to scramble in order to break down these defenses -- that is what opened up the defense at Old Trafford. Ox sometimes can do this, too, but impressive as his long range shooting is that is just not reliable enough. (Guardiola needs KdB, although Sterling or Mahrez having a good day is often good enough.)

@@hanklesacks Watford is hardly the first team to walk onto the pitch with that game plan. It is "neutralized Liverpool" when it works. It is "put to the sword by Liverpool" when it doesn't. In recent history, there are five dozen of examples of the second, and of the first we can count on one hand. Liverpool were not at their best against Atletico and Watford. While it is important to give the opposition credit for doing their part well, sometimes there is no profound lesson to be learned except the weakest part of Liverpool's game that everyone already knew about is still the weakest part of their game, and unluck and less sharpness on a day can cost them. Seriously, did these losses actually teach anyone anything they did not already know?

ComradeOgilvy1984 Yes, atletico and watford exploited liverpool’s weakest side of they were game hence they were found out, it wasn’t just an off day, especially against atletico over TWO LEGS, don’t be delusional mate. @ComradeOgilvy1984 4 жыл бұрын
@@hanklesacks "Found out" is supposed to mean something important? Because the results of those games showed me exactly nothing I did not know, for well over a year. Liverpool's weakness is the same one that the fans having been talking about for a long while, which is why the Reds midfield attracts so many passionate arguments. The difference this year is Hendo and Gini played so amazingly that the well known weakness just did not matter.

So to summarize Klopp's Tactics : - Extremely high pressure - Physical peak to keep pressuring the opponent - Speed , Dribble , and keep Running all game even if you don't have the ball - Allison Becker as goalkeeper and have great game with the foot (that assist he have to Salah against United is amazing) - Solid defense that shuts down all threats and keep the momentum of the team - Have an overall solid team, do not just rely on one player (Barcelona relies on Messi so much that if Messi has a bad day, Barca is dead)

first of all I want yp express my admiration of your work, analysis and finally a big up for the graphic designer in your previous videos. I agree with most of your points. I think there's an issue to clarify on players changing positions during the game. you talked about the front 3. and yes it is one of heir strongest weapon and as you said the midfielders also way in at crucial moments to create spaces. but I don't know if you've seen what happened during the atletico Madrid last match. I remember if it was during the last 10 m of the game but specially during extra time, van dyck was the front center of the team. I don't grasp the whole tactical idea but I think the shifting roles under kloop is much more complicated than just the front three shifting to cause difficulties on defensive marking. I think or I would love to see a whole episode dedicated to shifting position. specially that game where vandick took fermino's place during extra time

The center backs often push very wide, allowing Fabinho more space to be creative. This can be countered by leaving a striker in between the enter backs and a ball playing attacking false nine to pick out the pass. Liverpool like to push high, and this can be countered by drawing them in by passing around the back, and once the defensive line is far enough, use a pacey striker or winger to run in behind. This will make Liverpool o think they have you right where they want you, because they often force the long ball, but in fact, all the teams don’t pick out the through ball; they just clear the ball. To utilize this potential weakness to its maximum, use a defensive line who’s cool under pressure and a keeper who’s comfortable on the ball. While this may be found in Ederson, City’s back line lacks the confidence to pick out the through ball, and this this is why Liverpool have been so clinical with this tactic. Don’t get me wrong; I’m a Liverpool fan through and through, but I just can’t help finding these weaknesses within their impressive play.
@MrBenk2k
@MrBenk2k 3 жыл бұрын
not really a tactic reason, but key figure in the team is Alisson, he is such a goalkeeper. Wheneever you have a good GK, then it gives confidence to others. Two wingbacks, TAA and Robbo have a very big impact to defense and offense. When derby Merseyside ended 0-0, you can feel the lost of Robbo in the left. Although Gomez is a good defender in the left resulted TAA have a heavy attacked his side and stopped him to attack like usual. VvD well he is like tough wall. While in midfield, Fabinho I think is the main anchor. He can defend, have a good pass, and sometimes cannon ball. Literally, Klopp don't need an attacking MF as much as he needs a box-to-box MF or MF who can cover much areas ad possible. And of course, the famous front 3. What can we say about them? Some say Firmino, or Mane, but Salah has proved us so many in the last 2 seasons he capable of. I hope this team can conquer some trophies before they reached 31 or 32 years old :D

Yes and no. Love Son, and he would fit well in Klopps system, but Liverpool are not likely to pay top dollar for a player over 25 in the next couple years. With 3 years left on his contract the Spurs will not let him go cheaply. Liverpool has a squad with a number of key players peaking and aging nicely together. Son would be a good transfer, but not a great one. LFC is in a position of strength in the transfer market and can afford to focus on great transfers.

Sometimes I also reckon Klopp played 4-2-2-2, with Salah and Firmino up front, Mane and Henderson on the side, with the purpose to overload the opposition left back and right back with the support of TAA and Robertson. It always came in when the tradition 4-3-3 was not working and this 4-2-2-2 was the most effective in the first couple of minutes from changes. Milner was always brought in at later stage to stabilize the team and to hold on the lead.

You are absolutely right. But the Dutch legend typically followed 4-3-3 and on transition it forms a 3-4-3 with the forward often tucks into midfield to get that diamond midfield for outnumbering the opposition back 4. But once Cruyff mentioned that, if he has a ruthless No:9 like Van basten/Nistelrooy or someone like Romario, he would have definitely go for 4-3-3, as because he doesn't need to outnumber the opponents to get that goal.

henderson's roll is key he at times moves in to the back 3 and then at times playes as the wide man and then at times goes in too high central middfield....their needs to be a video made for all this movement......not many players could do the roll henderson has done for liverpool this season....he is not the best middfielder in the world but what he did this season tacticaly was world class and very very few could have done. it will be intresting too see keta play in the middfield 3 because he can thread the ball through the lines alot more then winaldrum or fabinio or henderson.....could we see fab moving back and having keta used more or could we see keta replace fab and play from deep and henderson doing what he did this season...... could fab play further forward when henderson playes in the 3. winaldrum will been too up his game even further because he can do more in my opinion......can firminio play from deeper

There’s one concerning thing. You can say that fullbacks are the ones who play the playmaker role at liverpool. They almost play like midfielders and cross the ball in countless times. Meanwhile, the central midfielders like wijnaldum and henderson stay in the back and cover up the space where normally fullbacks should be at. However, just like how you described ‘freedom to fail’, this long ball system is impossible to be the most accurate way in attack. And when opposition team consistently puts a marking man on liverpool’s fullbacks, then the build-up can be really frustrating that day. And it has happened multiple times this season inspite of the amazing record in the league. Every team knows how to play against liverpool. It was the mentality and individuals’ brilliance that played a big part in managing for them to come this far. I honestly doubt how long they can keep this system up. Only if keita could stay fit or chamberlain didn’t suffer that huge injury, things would’ve been different, but yeah.

Martyn Stembridge Nah, liverpool were just found out and watford neutralized them 3-0. Liverpool typically tend to attack with 5 players, with the full backs being the main playmakers, watford managed to shut them off by having them man marked by deolefeu and sarr

Hankle Sacks Mate, almost all of the Liverpool players at that game were lethargic. If it was just a case of them being found out, they would still have run around with the same energy as in other games. Perhaps more so. But they just weren't running until the subs came on. In addition, Klopp didn't seem to care much about the goals despite how passionate he usually is.

Look as a Man United fan this team is amazing but they will be a great team if they win over and over. Other teams will improve. Teams like Chelsea, man United and arsenal are all on the right track

All those teams are light years behind Liverpool and City. It is gonna take atleast 2-3 years before they reach that level IF they get their transfers right. Both these teams are winning a minimum of 10 games in a row. Man Utd, Chelsea and Spurs can't even string 5 wins in a row. I'm not gonna mention Arsenal because they are horrible. Although they are improving under Arteta.

Which just goes to show that all the claims that Liverpool won because they didn't have any injuries is a bunch of nonsense. The fact is they had a fair few injuries but the players from the bench dialed right in and did the job.

The offensive and defensive positioning are not the same. Particularly, when Liverpool defends a set piece. Good analysis but the attempt to generalize a team that plays a complicated system, by Klopp's admission, in 10 minute video is too ambitious.
