One thing I can't ever reconcile is the difference between Coverdale's interviews (witty and intellectual) and his song lyrics (juvenile and hackneyed).
@kevinjohnbetts5 жыл бұрын
In fairness to DC he's said on many occasions that he wishes he could write lyrics about other things but when he tries he hates the results. The way I reconcile it is that he doesn't take himself too seriously and his lyrics should be treated as very tongue in cheek. Interestingly two other great British Blues/Rock/Soul singers, Paul Rodgers and Steve Overland, don't write great lyrics either. Robert Plant may well be the exception that proves the rule.
@CB-xr1eg5 жыл бұрын
Witty and intellectual...he was going on about his white snake and how the song was all about his willy. Then he suggested Jonesy was fondling himself. Yea very witty and intellectual. The man is the king of the double entendre either in interviews or songs.

1:41 : I find it interesting how he changed his accent. I very much doubt he had elocution lessons as a kid. If you hear him talk in early Deep Purple interviews he sounds completely different - his Saltburn accent is really strong there. So he must have started to speak like Shakespeare at least after joining Deep Purple...doubt his mum paid for lessons then. My opinion is he changed it himself in an effort to fit in with a southern band and to play up to a British stereotype in America.

Thanks Schenker was Ted Mckenna on Drums and Cozy was in the Graham Bonnet version of Rainbow who I saw live in 1979.
@toddvandell855 жыл бұрын
@Chris Town The late Cozy Powell also played drums with The Michael Schenker Group long before the late Ted McKenna EVER joined.☺ In fact, Cozy toured with MSG for their first album, The Michael Schenker Group, the first one that drummer Simon Phillips played on? That one. Don Airey played keyboards, Mo Foster played bass, and all three of those gentlemen were listed simply as session musicians, and only Gary Barden and Michael Schenker were actual band members for that version of MSG. Cozy Powell played drums on their second studio album, MSG, and their live album, One Night at Budokan. Cozy also played drums on Whitesnake's Slide It In album. (Simon Phillips did play on a 30 year reunion tour and video with MSG for vocalist Gary Barden's return, which they filmed a live concert DVD for. Actually, Simon played on two other studio albums with MSG, too. But back in the early days of Simon Phillips' drumming career, he rarely went on tour with bands because he was a studio/session drummer, primarily. That's why Judas Priest brought Les Binks in on drums for the Sin After Sin tour: Simon chose not to tour with the band live.) Cozy slammed the skins for Black Sabbath as well, in addition to his solo forays. Whenever you really needed big drums with even even bigger sound? Cozy Powell was usually the go-to guy to call. He always had extra deep power toms and his double kicks were always 26" or 28" when 22" or 24" tended to be more typical or standard. (Bonzo from Led Zep played a 26" kick drum.) Cozy played with ALL the bands listed below: Bedlam, Cozy Powell's Hammer, The Jeff Beck Group, Rainbow, MSG, Whitesnake, Emerson, Lake & Powell, Gary Moore, Black Sabbath, The Brian May Band, Robert Plant, Suzi Quatro, Peter Green Splinter Group, Thin Lizzy, Cinderella.

Blackmore was under the impression that Purple didn't want him there at The Rock 'N' Roll Hall Of Fame, but that came from Purple's management. Gillan rang David and said that the current lineup would play a couple of tracks and then it' d be great if Ritchie, David and Glenn came up for 'Smoke On The Water.' Ritchie still likes to stir things up a bit I think, and he's certainly got animosity to the management who was once his and Rainbow's manager.
