First I want to say thank you for this video! thanks to you, I successfully fixed this issue on my car. I am a 27 year old female who is not mechanical AT ALL but refused to pay between 400-500 for a dealer to fix, and got tired of asking local small shops to take a look at it, then I stumbled across this video. I have never been more proud of myself lol!

Floyd Noblitt I had to do the same thing and I’m small. Both my legs fell asleep in the process. My problem is that I don’t have long skinny fingers. It took me 45 minutes just to get it disconnected and I still have to put the new one on, but that will have to wait as I have other places to be. At least I don’t have the constant clicking because it started to do it anytime I locked or unlocked the doors and would last for about 2 minutes and sometimes last until I would turn the car on and still stay on for a couple minutes regardless of what I did.

8 Years ago you posted this. Today, June 2024 I found it and can say that after watching dozens of videos this is the one that mattered. Great job. Your pace was perfect, your attention to the things that always seem to make a project a pain was excellent and your instruction was top notch. Yeah, I liked it. I wish you could have shown how you positioned yourself to make it look so "doable"; I found that putting the console down, laying down with my feet over the passenger side (all over including the passenger headrest LOL) was the ticket. Then I let my upper body slip down under the wheel and used the left hand for everything. Hard, but it worked! Thanks!

Seconding this in August 2024!! I replaced one on the passenger side a couple years ago and remembered hearing that the driver side was almost impossible to do yourself, so I thought I would need to take it in when the clicking began. However, this video laid everything out so clearly that I just followed your step by step and replaced it this evening!

Thank you so much for this video! It helped tremendously. I also was able to develop a whole new range of combinations of F word variations during this job. My cussing vocabulary is now much more robust. Also, huge shout out to the commenter who suggested using a 9V battery instead of hooking the part up to the car battery. That worked perfectly.

This video just saved me $1,215. I'm not joking. The mechanic wanted $1,245 to fix this issue (both actuators were broken). They told me it would take 6.5 hours to do because they would have to disassemble my entire dashboard. I just did this in an hour and 45 minutes, and both actuators cost me $30 (together). Do I have scrapes, cuts, and sore muscles now? Yes. Am I mad about it? No. Because my AC works again and I fixed it myself. So THANK YOU.

@rpruneau68
@rpruneau68 2 жыл бұрын
@@westtexastiger That's BS since I am sure the Flate rate is less than an hour each. They should have quoted 2hrs labor plus the cost of the parts. I bought (2) chinese cheapos for $23 whereas, the OEM AC Delco part was $32. Even with mark-up and an hourly rate of $95 it should have only been about $300 to $350 and they still would have made $$$. I certainly hope you don't do business with them even regular service work. There is a reason we call them Stealerships.
@westtexastiger
@westtexastiger 2 жыл бұрын
@@rpruneau68 I would guess that maybe the dealership included labor to remove the dashboard completely, to get at the actuators. Also wouldn't be surprised if maybe there were a few other things included in the estimate - such as maybe replacing the antenna that the key fob uses to interact with the car. I never got the dealership to replace any of my blend door actuators, because I always did .y own. Not sure if I recall correctly, but I think I paid maybe $27 to $30 for AC Delco replacement parts.

2 years later and about 2 more actuators for both driver and passenger side. I can do this with my eyes closed now, in about 5 minutes. A fix that every 9th gen Impala should get very well used to. Pro tip: look for the generic no-brand Chinese knock-off in Amazon. They sell 2 for $19 and surprisingly they last more than the AC Delco and Doorman part. They have lasted me a full year now, where the others lasted just a couple of months. Plus, they are super quiet.

Thanks for the tutorial. Just replaced mine. Your video was priceless!!! Synched the new one up using a 9 volt battery from one of my smoke detectors and 2 wires I stripped from an old cat5 cable. If you don't have alligator clips and don't want to hook up to your car battery, the 9 volt battery will do just fine and you can't hurt yourself. I found it extremely difficult to get to the actuator as I am pretty large and the space is very small. I also have a Viper security and remote start system installed which was also in the way. It took more time than I expected, but I eventually found the right angles to get to the bolts. Thanks again for your help!

Thanks for the clear and understandable instructions. I've watched others trying to show this, but with not very clear instructions. I finished mine in about 2.5-3 hours. Getting the new one in place was the hardest part for me. I lined up the new one using the battery cable trick you showed, but it still wouldn't go back on. I noticed that it had a spring action to the post if you tried to turn it, but it would just spring back to the original position. I even went ahead and plugged the power back into it and still it wouldn't work. I finally decided to turn the car on with the air running and found that I could then maneuver the post and then I found that I could change the position of the post without it springing back to the original position. I also removed a screw that was in the way near the bottom of the actuator, and it finally went on and the cool air started flowing out of the left side vents!!! YES!!! I then put the screws back in and tightened them up and put everything back together. I had to pray my way through this one! Thank God and thank you for your great instructions! The mechanic was going to charge me $900 for this because he said it required pulling the dash. Well, I only paid about $75 for the part and tools I needed! It was a bear of a job, but perseverance paid off! Thanks again.

Great Video!!! You make it look so easy, but it is a pain the ass to replace these actuators on the Impala if you don't have really small hands. I have done both sides a few times & still wonder how they go bad so fast. If you don't have a 5.5 mm a 7/32 will work fine for this application. Good luck and get your swear jar ready cause you'll need it :-) Oh, and they don't always click when they go bad.

Great video. we have a 2010 Impala that already had once actuator replaced on the passenger side. The Chevy dealer (Highland, IL) wanted several hundred to fix, claiming it was a difficult and the parts were "expensive". I took it to the dealership because I didn't think I could reach it myself (I'm really tall and have back problems). $510!! that is how much they were going to ROB me for, saying it was a hard to get to and it was a 4 hour job. This is a great video. It really is hell trying to replace the driver's side part without a lift, and ultimately I couldn't do it. But it still will help you make sure you figure out which side is busted. I thought maybe it was the pax side, since the rattle was plenty loud and the actuator was vibrating. Replaced that one myself. But no comparison once I followed these instructions to access the driver's side part. Noise was much, much louder and the vibration was way stronger. And given the reports of high prices to fix this at the dealer, this probably saved me a lot of money. I bought the part, and after failing to replace it, made an appointment with a dealer. Drove in with the new part on the pax seat and told them I knew for sure it was the driver's side since I had my hand on the actuator while it was clattering away. They used my part to fix it in about an hour, and they charged 137. Well under the multiple hundreds I see quoted throughout these comments.

Video saved me a lot of hassle. Once I removed the three electrical connectors (metal clip and 2 plastic clip), I took a bungee cord and strapped them out of my way. My small extension was still too long, so ended up using a 9/32 deep well socket, and it worked out great. When it was time to put the screws back in, I wrapped a piece of Scotch tape around the socket / screw head to keep from dropping it. I sprung for the Delco motors, $30 ea. Hopefully this isn't a repeat repair for a few years down the road.
