I worked for K Mart in the 70's as a teenager. It was a wonderful place to work. Little did I know that my future wife was working right next door at a fabric store. They paid us in cash at the end of the week, hoping we would spend some of it before leaving the store, they were right. I worked in the "Garden Shop", where we were taught everything about plants, but I was also a "floater" helping out anywhere I was needed. I wouldn't trade those memories for anything. Thanks Mr. Jaccard, Butch, Mrs. Lamb and all the other folks now gone, but not forgotten.

Amazing how many comments here are implying that this "smaller" format is some kind of path forward as a future for Kmart. These last few stores are nothing more than a liquidation flea market. What kind of merchandise does Kmart carry? The answer is whatever they happen to have on the shelf. That's not how consumers shop, and certainly not a sustainable business model. If someone is going to Walmart or Target, they know they can buy shaving cream, an ironing board, seasonal decorations, bedding, and a gallon of milk all in the same place. If they are going to Walgreen's, Foot Locker, or Dollar Tree, consumers already know what kind of merchandise they can find there. Kmart is a collection of random, frequently unrelated goods either obtained from previously closed stores or from the handful of wholesalers & suppliers still willing to extend them credit.

This is something that might actually work for K-mart if they would expand this to more areas around the states. More people are becoming exhausted with crowds and look for smaller stores that are convenient. These would be perfect in crowded cities especially. A small K-mart every few miles like we see McDonald's. I would shop here!

I am glad I went last may before they downsized the Kendall lakes plaza Kmart In Miami Florida. I got good hot wheels inventory at that store oh yeah.😊

I was at the Westwood, NJ KMart a couple weeks ago. There was very little in stock there also. No other customers during my half hour visit

Kinda sad, I went to this Kmart in August of 2022. They had barely anything. After searching some more in the store, I found they had a huge sale on DieHard Socks. Probably the hardest thing to find at Kmart and Sears since most of their product brands such as DieHard, Craftsman, Roebuck & Co, Route 66, and Islander were manufactured a couple years ago and I doubt they are still being made anymore. It was nice they had a sale on this specific item since The Westwood Kmart never had them. I was there to see the Green, Yellow, and Red walls and this store was really nice. I enjoyed walking into the store and inhaling that sweet dusty Kmart smell. Oh boy I love it. I wish they sold air freshener’s that smell like that. Mhmmmm. 😂 I kinda wanna go back and snoop around the downsized store a bit next time I’m on vacation. I’m sure I won’t be getting the sweet sensation of that beautiful smell, * sniff * oh yeah 😏 😂 Ok I’ll stop.

From what I understand, At Home was supposed to take over but backed out of the contract. Kmart had to open back up to fill the void of the back out, so this is their temporary shop till the lease is sold again.

@Tyer Alexander Did you really need to spam my feed with 4 different responses? You might own the property, but your lease goes hand in hand with the rest. If somebody backs out but the main lease calls to have an open building, then he has to open back up, period. Secondly, him calling for smaller stores is extremely old, and hasn't worked out, this has nothing to do with those plans.

Why did Kmart not do this years ago, they knew they couldn't compete with Walmart. They could have easily downsize many of their stores to this concept. Leasing out massive amounts of their existing spaces to stores that complement this style of Kmart. I believe that could have been a savior of the company. The product line was just too broad to compete with Walmart it's unfortunate what happened to Sears hometown, because those were great stores.

They did this with the store in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, it was a tad bit bigger and had a much nicer charm to it, there was also one in Puerto Rico that opened in 2012 somewhere around there, but it didn’t last very long

Eddie didn't invest in the company, it didn't and never did make a difference how much the store made. Sears Hometown also closed because they had their leases bought by Eddie to be closed. Plenty of Hometown stores made money. He just wants the land, nothing else.

A sad end for a once great chain as a half assed dollar store filled with randomness. When I worked for them 30 years ago, they shut the store I worked at when I was 16 years old in their first round of closings, Back then, even we thought Kmart as a whole was not long for the world. Our store was broken down and outdated; we didn't even have bar code scanners but had to tag each item and key them manually. The conveyer belts in the warehouse were held together by duct tape, the shelves had turned yellow from age. Kmart has been going out of business for 30 years; only real question now is when will it breathe its last gasp? The beginning if the end was marked when they changed their original logo to the ugly 90s logo. That was when they started to do away with cafeterias and delis, auto centers, and started to become a worse and worse place to shop while Wal-Mart got better and better.

Why sign was temporary in last video awhile back knew downsizing space looks like in Garden Canter now or where it was lol. They when back to there roots original stores were small probably like this maybe smaller. Must have recently just happened dont ever have store for rent/lease yet. Maybe if more had done this still be around not same as we know him but name survives. Probably why inventory in store in last months video low have to move it all into this smaller space so had almost going out of business feel going but just downsized.
