When I was taking classical guitar as an elective in university, our instructor gave us a list of classical pieces to listen as an assignment, and this piece was one of them which I thought was the best one in the list. After a week he was expecting us to play something from Fernando Sor, while everyone was preparing and tuning their guitar I did play Milonga-Cardoso and he got suprised and we had an awesome connection and chat with my instructor. Its been almost 7 years and we still talk about music and have fun time together :)

My friends, to me, this masterpiece is one of the finest compositions ever written for guitar. Listening closely to the harmonies, the ornamentations, the changing of voicing, and most of all the delicate, incredible rhythms simply astounds me.

Beautiful milonga. Thank you for sharing this music.

over ten years ago I picked up a CD of Cardoso called “TAÑIDOS” (Música barroca española, 1992) in which he plays compositions by such greats as Gaspar Sanz and other early Spanish guitar music. I liked the Sanz so much that I spent the next couple of years collecting everyone who ever played Sanz. I got Hopkinson Smit, John Williams, Julian Bream, Andres Segovia and many others. What I discovered is that NONE of these great guitarists came even close to playing as well as Cardoso's versions!!!

Because Cardoso learned guitar without first learning how to read music notation. So his ears are trained harmonically... It's a joy to listen to his advanced interpretations from his knowledge of the folklore that gave rise to the composition.

Grazie concertista Jorge Cardoso. La saluto con affetto e rispetto dovuto come persona e come artista.

Very beautifull playing by the composer himself. Full of nuances! The milonga is not to be played at a quick tempo - and although is very much related to Tango it has a very different character. Those who insist in playing it at a fast speed or demanding it to be played that way only reveal their ignorance on Latin American culture.

It is best to play in all three speeds- slow, medium and fast and then to adjust accordingly to what suits you as a player individually. I think we should go within & allow our own natural speed develop as the composition inspires us. In East Indian and Middle Eastern music various speeds are emphasized in composition to creates ones own improvising style- this is not so much the case in Western music. This is a beautiful piece & I truly enjoyed listening to it by the original artist!
