In 1979, KMSP-TV 9 station lost its ABC affiliation to KSTP-TV 5, whose NBC affiliation moved to WTCN-TV 11 (now KARE 11), originally an independent station. A network affiliation returned in the form of Fox in 1986-1987, but they reverted to independent status due to lack of programming. In 1995, KMSP became a UPN owned and operated station since the KMSP-TV 9 was owned by Chris-Craft at the time. In 2002, KMSP-TV 9 swapped affiliations with WFTC-TV 29, making making KMSP-TV 9 an affiliate of Fox for the second time and WFTC-TV 29 an affiliate of UPN (now MyNetworkTV).

Longtime voiceover artist Doug Paul passed away last Tuesday from heart failure resulting from pulmonary fibrosis. He was 59 years old.

Jordana Green came from FOX59 in Indianapolis to work at then FOX29 before FOX going back to KMSP now FOX 9...When WFTC was FOX...call letters meant W- Fox Twin Cities and owned by Clear Channel. Chris Craft / United TV owned KMSP and sold their stations...FOX ended up buying KMSP & making WFTC a duopoly...KMSP was UPN one of the highest rated affiliates...KMSP became FOX again after 14 yrs prior and WFTC went to UPN. WFTC 9:00 news moved to 10pm to compete with Channels 4,5,11 because 9 & 29 were owned by FOX TELEVISION STATIONS...29's 10pm news was moved to KMSP FOX9. Jordana Green she currently on 830 WCCO AM radio.

Okay, if y'all wanna know the interesting (yet crazy) reasons of why KSTP is ABC, or KARE is NBC, read up on the great afflilation switch of 1979 for the Minneapolis/St. Paul Market. It boiled down to ABC telling KMSP to up the production values, or else. Channel 9 chose the or else, and well, the rest is history.
