I find 0:19 awfully bittersweet, to be cheered with that joy for a song of immense pain to remember your dead best friend. In any case, this woman is a legend.

It's one thing to be able to play this but to be able to sing such a complex song at the same time is amazing.

I had a music teacher in high school who played harp, I always thought/saw it as an instrument that plays angelic and classical music. I love that Joanna has opened my eyes to what a harp can do, and she has inspired me to see what I can do with it. She truly is amazing.

For some reason listening to her joke around before the song made it more tragic. Particularly knowing the background to it, and that I can barely listen to it without crying.

@bailey cristine her very, very close friend passing away. This was a friend that was there for her when she tried to have a 'spirit journey' and brought her bread and water while she spent nights just staring out at a lake. Worst part was, if I'm remembering correctly, she couldn't go to the funeral.

The D pedal (used to make the 'd' note go sharp or flat) was apparently slipping or something. So she had the audience keep an eye on it in case it slipped and to yell out "D PEDAL!" If you watch Easy of the same concert, you'll see an audience member shout it out.

Saw her live in Copenhagen and it was one of the best concert I have seen my life and have seen many. There is so much emotion and feelings in her performance ...

This is how I imagine sea sirens sounding. Not a conventionally "good" voice, but a haunting ethereal voice. If a sailor was at sea, no doubt he'd want to get closer to this voice to figure out the source.

Strange thought that I've never seen someone play a harp before today. It's an interesting sight, she looks like a machine. So focused, it's the polar opposite of how guitarists perform.

Beyond belief that she can somehow have found extinct and forgotten styles that probably never really even quite existed, and bring them magically to life again.

even if this only is a joke it makes me so sad that everytime women is smart or good at something, someone's always trying to push them down and make them feel like fools.

@TomIlling Everyone like different sounds, same as foods. I guess with Joanna, it's that her voice is so unique and different to any other artist. It's so mesmerising. She has the talent to turn her voice into music. And her lyrics are amazing.. Ahhh, it's just so unexplanable. If you find her voice to scratchy, listen to Good Intentions Paving Company and On A Good Day. The songs from her album "Have One On Me" are somewhat "smoother" vocally. Though I love all her music.

And I was there; and should Joanna ever read these comments, may I just say thank you for persisting with the set as long as you did: Cranborne Chase at nightfall certainly isn't California climatic conditions - even in late summer: I'm sure Thomas Hardy may have said as much in something like Tess of the Durbervilles. Hope you enjoyed the visit to Wessex before the night chilled you to the marrow, hasten back as soon as possible.

Cosmia When you ate I saw your eyelashes Saw them shake like wind on rushes In the corn field when she called me Moths surround me, thought they'd drown me And I miss your precious heart And I miss your precious heart Dried rose petal, red brown circles Framed your eyes and stained your knuckles Dried rose petal, red brown circles Framed your eyes and stained your knuckles And all those lonely nights down by the river Brought me bread and water, water in But though I tried so hard my little darling I couldn't keep the night from coming in And all those lonely nights down by the river I was brought my bread and water by the kith and the kin Now in the quiet hour when I am sleepin' I cannot keep the night from comin' in Why've you gone away Gone away again I'll sleep through the rest of my days If you've gone away again I sleep through the rest of my days And I sleep through the rest of my days And I sleep through the rest of my days Why've you gone away, away Seven suns, seven suns Away, away, away, away Can you hear me, will you listen Don't come near me, don't go missing In the lissome light of evening Help me, Cosmia, I'm grieving And all those lonely nights down by the river Brought me bread and water, water in But though I tried so hard my little darling I couldn't keep the night from coming in And all those lonely nights down by the river I was brought my bread and water by the kith and the kin Now in the quiet hour when I am sleepin' I cannot keep the night from comin' in Beneath the porch light we've all been circling Beat our dust hearts, singe our flour wings But in the corner, something is happening Wild Cosmia, what have you seen Water were your limbs, and the fire was her hair And then the moonlight caught your eye And you rose through the air Well, if you've seen true light, then this is my prayer Will you call me when you get there And I miss your precious heart And miss, and miss, and miss And miss, and miss, and miss, and miss, and miss your heart But release your precious heart To its feast, for precious hearts

It's because they are both women and they are both unlike the 'average' perfomers you hear on the radio these days. So when you do hear a genuine artistic style, a lot of people don't know what to make of it. It's quite sad really.

Wonderful sound! And her voice reminds me of Björk.
@FridayMorningHero12 жыл бұрын
@TomIlling No doubt she has a very unfamiliar voice. It's somewhat of a Siren Song for me; so otherworldly that I cannot help but go slack and just bathe in it. Similar to what the star blind person said, she uses her voice as an instrument--clarity and pitch are not the focus, but rather inflection and dynamism. I, too, would recommend Good Intentions Paving Co as a way to ease into her world. It has a little more for us mortals to latch on to. I hope you dive in!
