Knapweed and weeds in permaculture

www.permies.com This is me at the Missoula public library answering questions after we watched a Sepp Holzer movie. I try to talk a bit about knapweed in particular and other weeds in general. In a nutshell, trees will outcompete nearly all problem weeds.

I keep having this problem where my landlady eradicates the best 'easy-care salad' plants for being weeds, and then the slugs eat my expensive salad. Landlady basically dislikes non-native plants, AND invasive plants - even the invasive or self-propagating natives, she doesn't tend to like. Frustrating set of preferences to garden around, because that covers most of the stuff that tolerates my sporadic care in between out-of-town trips. Any tips on non-invasive bloody tough native edibles?

Definitely buy your own ground. Renting always brings tears and much gnashing of teeth.
