So this is an interesting tape. I've played it a few times to check and double check the audio and video. The video inclues "Life Goes On" and Entertainment This Week. The audio is from KNBR 680 from (I believe) October 15, 1989. Maybe the audio was picking up a radio signal while the VCR was recording?

Hi J. I think this is a tape that somebody wanted to tape the baseball game off the radio. They use the VCR since it can record up to 8 hours continuously. I've done this type of recording of long radio shows myself before I got my digital recorders.. Before the advent of stereo TV. Remember the days when .HBO or MTV simulcast their stereo concerts on FM radio.. I used my NEC N965u HiFi stereo VCR as I select the simulcast switch to simulcast to record the radio on the HiFi track on the tape and the TV video and audio will be recorded normally on the tape. Note the audio from the TV program is recorded on the linear track on the tape. My Sony super Betamax has the simulcast switch too.. This also can be done on a non HiFi stereo VCR too but you wont get the TV show audio track. Take care.....

Hmmm, maybe I should play this tape back in linear mode and see if I get different audio. If that's the case, then we're hearing hifi audio of an AM radio station? 😛

@@JsClassicTV Hi J.. Yes, Give it a try . you should get the audio from the TV shows that were recorded at the same time as the baseball game. ..So "Life Goes On" and Entertainment This Week clips will playback normally. BTW That NEC VCR had to go into the shop when I first got it back in 1987 because it was receiving a few FM stations on the HiFi playback. The radio stations were not recorded on tape as the VCR was recording. The TV/VCR shop said it was the HiFi circuit board shielding was not grounded properly. Glad the NEC VCR was still under Warrantee.

@@WPPCProductions I have a Sony SL-HF860D betamax. Is there a way to switch the audio output from hifi to linear audio? I see a switch for setting stereo for the RECORDING, but not one for playback. I have a 3.5mm headphone connector in the front, an RCA line out, and audio out next to it.
