I used to pride myself in my defensive capabilities, so while I do enjoy Tekken 8 it’s true that being defensive is only good for not being put into the blender. I don’t think chip damage should have ever been a thing, and guard breaks are absolutely unfair. There should be no reason for me to be punished for blocking correctly, and guard breaks open me up for damage for free?

@@Judgment unblockables are a different thing, as they usually have big wind up, but with power characters like kuma and jack, you’re already stuck in block stun before they throw out a guard break move, meaning you can’t avoid it and then you’re opened up. Maybe I’m missing something I dunno.

I could handle all that if it wasn't for the forced guaranteed mix ups that jail on block like half of Azucenas moves. There is literally no counter play. That's what kills the game. I'm not ultra defensive I'm more offense oriented but it kills the fun when everyone plays the same. I'm still decent and win matches bc I have better defense than the people I beat but a lot of times, more often than I'd like, I win bc I cheese harder. And that's not satisfying.

It’d be way more balanced if they went the Street Fighter 4 route and gave you a choice to use either Heat or Rage before a match. Or, you can have both, but Rage is only half as strong and Heat time is cut in half. Back in SF4 you could have one full power super art, or two but both are weaker. That’s a good balancing factor. But having to press essentially only two buttons to cut your opponents health by AT LEAST 50, for some ppl like King up to 70%? Absolutely ludicrous.

One thing, which sucks pretty much, is the guard dmg. And even worse you can combine guard dmg with moves, which are + on block (for example azucenas wr3,2 or even more). All you can do, is to watch you health going down for blocking. Thats sucks

Not to disparage on your analysis, but Knee whines. A lot. Back around 2020, he said the same thing about Tekken 7 not being fun and how he wants to take a break and do more YT stuff. Plus, he's know for being kind of an egoist sometimes. If you're truly a high-level Tekken player, then figure it out and prove your mettle, otherwise some else will. The game's still new, so there's going to be a lot of tweaks that come by to fix egregious issues. A lot of high level players aren't bad or anything, but a lot of them can be a little spoiled.

there is no neutral in T8, you are either in advantage or in disadvantage. Before this game Tekken was defined by the many options you had in neutral and in your defence now most characters have tools that have little to no counterplay and you just have to deal with it.

I only have T7 as a reference but can say that T8 needs to tune down a bit the whole heat system and chip in general. Imo bamco should make heat stuff more risk reward (like smashes being steppable if timed right or smt), tone chip a bit down and change grabs (no tracking and increase the counter hit timing by a little). I think this still preserves T8,s offense identity while giving smart defensive players enough of an impact. Idk if these are good ideas coming from a casual like me, so...

just add a universal heat defensive mechanic. like a pushblock that costs 50% heat and can be used without being in heat. so you can trade half your heat to go back to neutral.

I love the game but it can be very frustrating to punish anything in this game. Too many plus frames on certain moves, some moves track even though you sidestep, grab tracks (which should honestly be taken out of the game) and even if they dont track they somehow still hit you because you are close to their side. I main kaz and this shit is frustrating to play knowing that everyone can be on the offensive while im forced to be on the defensive. But moment i pick any other character its just spam away. I hope they make some serious system changes.

Make it so you need to charge up your heat meter by defending attacks. Once you block enough attacks you can activate it. There you go, that gives more defensive strategy viable.

tldr: it's not that defensive players can't use skills to remain at their level, it's that everyone at around that level (regardless above or below), can decisively win or lose to anyone else. So even an aggressive pro can still receive a beat down by a weaker player. Ofc, naturally, that's why top level has to have defense/movement/punishes in it. Tekken 8 is taking that away.

They just added on to rage art which I am not a big fan of either. Pretty much they are taking out the execution part in fighting game it is not just a tekken problem. They are just trying to introduce it to newer players to the game. I think if they took out the chip damage it would help or even have a heat meter that you would have to fill in order to use. The problem is it is just so offensive without given it a way to use defensively.

These days it seems like they should have 2 modes that offer different incentives and gameplay experiences. Ranked should have a different method of heat, such as having to build the meter to use heat or not have it at all.That should be the ranked experience. Causaul mode should have the game the way it is now and offer some sort of cosmetic gain like treasure mode. That way, both causal players and "pro" players can both be happy.

Overall nerfs to grabs and tracking moves would really help. The real problem with Tekken 8 right now is the shortage alternative counterplay against a lot of moves. There should always be 2-3 ways to defend properly against certain moves. Don’t like how they just keep on buffing Lars right now.

I've played tekken since 5, and I like to main Asuka because I like counter hit gameplay. I have to change my whole style because of Tekken 8 mechanics, and it's hard to keep up with the rest of the cast, especially since Asuka is nerfed and not an aggressive character.

I feel the same way. I've gotten to Fujin, and then stopped. It's crazy you can get more points by demoting and then getting a promotion boost. So rank means little. It's just not fun, and the skill barrarier is so low, there is no reward for optimizing that combo you've trying so hard to learn. I think I'll wait. The updates will hopefully improve the game. Fingers crossed.

Chip damage I do like, i added it whenever possible in previous tekkens but just give us the option to edit our own matches at least we can turn off heat etc...

All Namco needs to do is remove "chip damage" and make damage calculation just like previous tekken. Heat system can stay. Can't lie, i enjoy heat system and aggressive gameplay, but hate chip damage. Defensive play in tekken is harder than other fighting game, 50:50 you have to guess if its high, middle or low. So It should be rewarded by your health stay where they are when you're defend successfully.

Hit GoD last night first time ive hit max rank in any tekken game. Taking a huge break for sure it fried my mental. I watch my red purple blue rank friends stream their games in discord and the no neutral mashy gameplay, wake up rage arts, turn stealing with heat burst and smash is just so cringe lmao. I will tell yall around tekken emperor and higher you will have some of the most fun games of your life when people actually want to play neutral, but i definitely see where beginner to intermediate players complaints are coming from!

Chip damage isn’t the problem I would say it needs a nerf but yes the game is too aggressive nobody should be plus off of heat smash and heat burst shouldn’t be usable in the middle of literal pressure either make it so the heat burst armor can only take a couple of hits before it’s canceled or just make it so it can’t be used to steal turns this way players would kinda have to think a bit before they just throw out heat burst or heat smash and make rage arts more unsafe on block

@@OgSleep it's not boring if you actually understand what was actually happening on those matches while on t8 its just abusing all the broken tools your character has. forcing a bs 50/50 that doesn't exist on the older titles cuz back then those forced 50/50 situations only happens if the move actually hits not blocked and before there's always a way to counter everything whether it be movement of proper punishment or taking advantage on the minus frames make the opponent guest after blocking it kinda like taking turns so it would force your opponent to choose other options which made it fair you just need to git gud and learn the matchup. while on t8 you mostly don't need to learn matchups there's a ton of stuff that just forces you to guess the mixups absorb the moves your opponent will throw and some even has abusable options to keep the frame advantage you can't even step on most of them it's basically just forcing you to play rock paper scissors whenever you block certain moves plus the chip damage on top of that you're not rewarded for being good and having matchup knowledge just abuse all the broken tools your character had and mash every button you can press like Eddy has a combo with just spamming 33333

@@holden6104 defensive methodical play is the core of tekken, it's not just a playstyle preference, that's how the game was designed to be played in order to dominate, and whoever was the best at it would win, but that's not the case anymore since they redesigned the game core towards aggressive scrubbery

The system usually permitted both type of play, since there were ways around everything but the aggressor could still use frame advantage and mixups to apply pressure. Basing the system around forced mixups basically only favors one style of play now which is a massive disappointment. It's all about prioritizing casual players over veterans, which is a slow death for a game like Tekken.
