The way sports media treats the Knicks is very similar to how New York (the city) is treated by news media. I think New Yorkers are severely misunderstood. too corporate of a franchise at this point tbh unfortunately. it’s the tourist/corporate team of the two, the Jets are the more rabid working class fan base and this is likely due to where the teams played prior to metlife etc. Knicks really only were able to get both corporate/tourism vibes and working class vibes because they were the only team in town for like 50 years, if the Nets stayed on LI after the NBA-ABA merger that may have not been the case. I wouldn’t hold your breath waiting for a similar type of energy, but yall still have great moments like with Tommy Cutlets etc. Appreciate what you got dawg, it may not be the same but it’s still great and the history the Giants have is phenomenal(coming from a Jets fan). We are a lucky state/city to have so many historic franchises

I remember watching the Pat Riley Patrick Ewing Charles Oakley John Starks Knicks of the 90s lose heartbreaking postseason games that de ied them a title in 1993 and 1994 . In those years it seemed that all of the Knicks fans sitting at MSG looked like Jerry Seinfeld, George Costanza,Frasier Crane, and Gordon Gecko. Grown men dressex in coats and ties. Its nice to see young fans who look like theyre between the ages of 16 and 24 celebrating the success of this Knicks team the way college fans cheer. They do remind me a little bit like college fans. It seems that this generation appreciates this Kni k team more than the Pat Riley era Knick fans. Your thoughts.

not entirely apt lol, Pacers v Knicks rivalry is actually relatively heated it’s just been kinda dead for a while since we haven’t both been relevant at the same time in a minute. There’s a reason the crowd was chanting “fuck you reggie” in MSG lmao. that being said, Philly is within a 2 hour drive of NYC and Boston around 3-4 and we all have public transit systems that connect at some point so our proximity to one another is VERY tight. So yea the rivalry with those teams are going to be way more heated, it’s more of a rivalry between our cities. Philadelphia and Boston are huge rivals for NYC in all sports, Giants and the Eagles, Jets and the Pats, Yankees and the Red Sox, Mets and the Phillies etc. I think Hockey is really the only one where we are saturated enough in the metro area that our main rivalries are just NYC metro teams vs one another rather than the other main cities(also likely because all the teams play in the same div in the NHL in NY whereas they don’t in the MLB/NFL and nobody cares about the Nets)even then it still gets a bit heated if we play the Bruins/Flyers despite them not being the main rivalry for all the respective markets. Essentially it’s like all playoff rivalries where the teams aren’t in proximity, it’s all relative to how long both teams stay relevant
