Absolutely agree with you on this, anything smaller than a 2 foot machete should always be belt or body carriable in the sheathe provided!
@ColonelSandersLite3 ай бұрын
I'm not even sure why a machete should be an exception TBH.
@dragonsaint94463 ай бұрын
@ColonelSandersLite From about 2' and up there's a case to be made that it'll spend most of its time in storage or a toolbox for gardening/agricultural machetes, and that even bush clearing ones are more likely to be stowed in/on a backpack when not in use. Not to say a blade like that can't or shouldn't have a belt loop, just that I can see the argument for ones that don't.
@sammywilliam81562 ай бұрын
Not a boast because I just got the d*** thing today but my block 81 field and I have a part where you can put a belt loop through it and it costs $48.33 believe spending $500 on a knife and not being able to carry it on my person that's basically no offense to this young man I love his content and I love that he explores every night even the dollar store ones which me used to be on a budget is very honorable thing to do But it's basically like pissing in the wind

Just wanna point out that at $500 you can get halfway decent swords from Del Tin, Darksword Armory & Balaur Arms. A lot of knives fail for me at this price range when I play "What else can I buy for what that costs" because I know where to buy swords. A knife has to be really impressive aestehtically, innovative in some way or have some really boujee materials to warrant that kind of asking price.
@cheapshotfishing92393 ай бұрын
Swords and knives are literally useful for drastically different tasks
@SeymourLolis3 ай бұрын
@@cheapshotfishing9239 True, but swords should have a drastically higher manufacturing cost. They're similar material, made by similar employees, etc., except swords use more material, take more space, etc. There's no reason why a knife and should cost the same as a sword of comparable quality.
@SeemsLogical3 ай бұрын
When a knife starts getting into the sword price range is when I start to expect stuff like premium properly heat treated steels, mother of pearl inlays, perfect lockup with a centered blade, hair whittling sharpness, multiple opening mechanisms, a compound hollow grind, a genuine leather sheath with embossing, beautiful anodization, comfortable ergonomics, a life time warranty and luxury style packaging. The higher the price, the higher my expectations. Because at $500 is where stuff like that becomes a realistic possibility. So if I am not getting any of that in your knife at that price range then I am not buying. Charge a lower price if you want the knife to sell.
@cheapshotfishing92393 ай бұрын
@SeymourLolis they're different steels typically, at least the ones I go for. Usually I like a nice spring steel for a sword, n a high carbon for a dagger. Gerber mk ii never leaves my hip, perfect shape to punch through tough carp n catfish skulls fast. N it just depends on what u mean. Like a high end sword from a low end brand can cost as much as a high end knife from a high end brand, but I feel like a handmade sword by a single artist and a handmade knife by a single artist should generally make sense for their price (for the former 800-2000 and for the latter generally 3-500$) until we get into art blades and then material science goes out the window and prices stop making sense entirely from a utility standpoint and only start to make sense when you look at it from the pov of someone buying art.
@cheapshotfishing92393 ай бұрын
@SeemsLogical I mean you're not wrong to expect better quality for a higher price, that's a good mindset to have, I just think looking at it in terms of like "I could get a whole sword for that price" is silly when you're not looking for a sword, you're looking for a knife, at least hypothetically. If you want good knives for sword prices look at zero tolerance, extrema ratio, shoot even Benchmade does some pretty good stuff for a relatively reasonable price. Just try to look at it for what it is yknow, a knife will do lots of things a sword can't and there's engineering and design that goes into every centimeter of a good blade.

Idk when people started normalizing $500 for a mostly if not all machine manufactured knives. Most have “ok” steel but it’s just a knife, majority aren’t even custom. Same reason I quit buying benchmades it’s not worth what you get. I’d much rather buy a decent knife and a Glock or a couple used glocks and ammo lol these “tactical” knives are getting ridiculous.

@calculatedsurvival3 ай бұрын
I do like 1095 for a lot of reasons, as well as 52100 for its extreme toughness. But I am switching to AEB-L for my next couple batches sometime in the future. AEB-L is basically the stainless version of 52100. And I like simple steels because you can sharpen them in the field on a river rock unlike these new powdered super steels…

I am suprised you didn’t see that they are handmade in the USA… those are the first words above the description. I have my blanks cut by New Jersey Steel Baron. I grind them. (There are videos of this, but I guess I should make more.) I heat-treat them to 58-60 HRC I powdercoat them. (Only once did I have a third party coat them, but I won’t be going that route again.) I make the sheaths. I sharpen them I make the handles. (I do buy sheets of micarta because I do not make micarta in house.) I do not make the throwing hatchet… I was not able to keep up with demand so I have those made by Ergo Chef.
@SuperSteelSteve3 ай бұрын
@calculatedsurvival Appreciate the info. "Made in the USA" is a legally protected term. "Hand made in the USA " is not. This is why I ask. Companies like Cobratech have exploited this. The fact the throwing hatchets are Chinese made was another flag. Survival guy youtubers selling Chinese made merchandise is very common. Thank you for clearing this up
@calculatedsurvival3 ай бұрын
I did not know that about the legally protected terms. Thanks for the info on that. Unless I start a factory in the USA for every item I sell, I don’t think I’ll be able to ever fully get away from China. So I decided to test everything I sell and if it passes the test, then I approve it for sale on my site. I don’t think I will ever outsource my knives listed on my site. That is an item I am very sensitive about. I am starting to hand make new throwing hatchet handles out of aluminum here in my workshop. I ran them over with my truck and they survived. They are 5oz heavier though… I’m going to try and have them ready for Christmas.
