I'd keep the belt grinder & repair it. Once fixed, sell it to someone just starting out. Recycling & paying it forward all in one fell swoop..

I am a 73 year old USMC, RVN Veteran and I want to start making knives. I subbed to you a few weeks ago and really enjoy how you succinctly describe the process and let me know when you make a mistake ~!~ I am gathering my equipment and tools and plan on making a DIY 2X72 belt sander. I don't plan on selling knives, I just want to make them for the fun of it. Thanks so much for your willingness to share your expertise.

G-flex is the best epoxy I've ever used. I have tons of experience with fiberglass repair among other various repairs and it is the toughest epoxy on the market in my opinion. You could glue a tractor to a ceiling with that stuff. Expensive but worth it.

I really liked the new knife that was meant to look old. Good useful knife. I always liked drop points for gutting and skinning and its hefty enough for a lot of uses. Might I suggest bois d'arc, desert iron wood, or mesquite for handle scales. They're hard enough to take a polish. Also, J.B. weld for glue. It will bond anything, will stand extreme heat and isn't bothered much by moisture.

Great work, vary impressive. I like the orange G10 and light wood color. I don’t think the burn aged affect is good. But maybe another aging technique could work. Like a random pitting texture to the handle. Hit it with a small chain or something. Or a stippling pattern to the handle. Thanks for the information and inspiration.

Hi Alex. I watch as many of your videos as time permits and always come away with the same thought: you make me sick.... not in a bad way, just that everything you teach/demonstrate adds something to my list of things I’d like to do. Sadly I lack the time and probably your level of skill that’s obvious on you vids. Oh well, I guess I’ll have to wait until I retire - or quit my job to do enjoyable projects! Keep up the excellent work & record as much as possible. The things you teach are outstanding!!

Nice tutorial, thank you for sharing your knowledge. Just a note on the bearings going out on your sander. You can repair the bearings by taking the sander apart and measuring the bearings with those calipers of yours. Then go online and buy new ones to replace. It will run like new again, nice and smooth and much more quiet. Really enjoyed your videos, how about making a chef knife some time. That is something I'm very interested in myself. I haven't made a knife yet but I did just finish making a 2"xx72" grinder and it works great. You may want to make one yourself one day. They really grind down metal fast with a 36 grit belt. Take Care and thanks again!

You can make knives out of old lawn mower blades. I knew of a man who made knives for New PBR riders. He used old lawn mower blades. Not sure how many PBR riders he did it for but every time they stopped in town he made sure they each got one of his handmade knives. Very well built too. Was gonna go learn the trade at his shop but he passed away before i got a chance.
