Beautiful result and beautiful work! Among many other things, I learned much about careful forging and skilled use of the cross pein from watching. Thanks!

Those scales are absolutely gorgeous! Beautiful match with the “rustic” blade. What I particularly enjoy about your channel is you forge your blades where most just do stock removal from flat steel. Not to take away from their efforts, but I appreciate more hammer work to near finish. I try it and it’s damned difficult to do. Are you still in AK?

Like the way you’re still forging from start to near finish……So So much better looking with character. Impressive how Fancy meets rustic. (Hybrid) seems to work well on most knives ect👌🏼 Keep it up and keep it in!

That is a beautiful knife I really like the handle scales and I am also curious about what speed do you run your drill at for going through 5160
@Mysticmountainforge2 ай бұрын
Thanks, I appreciate you watching. I normally run mine around 2500 rpm for a 1/8 inch drill bit. Even then some say that's a little slow, and that I should be running it closer to 3000 rpm. I started drilling the tang in the video with an older worn-out bit which hit a hard spot and pretty much gave up, you can see when drilling the second handle pin hole closer to the blade it did much better with a new bit, 5160 can be a pain sometimes no matter what you do to anneal it.
@chewyakarieckenicholas60492 ай бұрын
@@Mysticmountainforge that is exactly why I asked about the speed because I keep burning up bits
@RyanBarnes2 ай бұрын
So, for this handle, you're replying on the epoxy to hold the scales on, not so much the pins? Pins here are also g10 did I catch that right?
@Mysticmountainforge2 ай бұрын
The pins are 1/8 inch g10 and the handle is resin. The epoxy and pins both will secure the handle scales, and the epoxy also helps protect from water getting down behind the handle scales and rusting the tang which can cause separation. I appreciate you watching.

5160 is not scrap... the piece in the beginning show us that... not scrap. FAKE.
@Mysticmountainforge2 ай бұрын
This is forged from scrap 5160 I have laying around my shop from some old leaf springs, if you took time to watch some of my other videos before commenting you would notice I use this type of steel in a lot of my builds. Accusing someone of being fake is pretty ridiculous, especially when you know absolutely nothing about them, I run a blacksmithing and bladesmithing business professionally. I have a large client base and many people who would be more than happy to vouch for the quality of my work, KZbin is only a very small part of my overall business so to fake something for views would be beyond ridiculous. Either way, it is easy to see that you posted without taking things into consideration, so oh well. I appreciate you checking the video out and wish you the best.
@jusme80602 ай бұрын
Different definitions of scrap I hope.
@NSNorse2 ай бұрын
5160 is a type of steel.. has nothing to do with "scrap". Scrap is defined as a small piece of something left over after the main portion has been used. So, ironically, a piece of leftover 5160 from another project WOULD be scrap. So you're either a troll looking for attention (I hear your mommy is free, with milk and cookies for you), or you're just an idiot. I pray for the first one.. the world needs less stupidity.
