The bench clearing is what I want to do to every time I start a project too lol. That leather tool came out sweet. I just did a huge batch of aeb-l and finished the first few and you are right. The edge you can get is amazingly sharp.

i use a blade for cutting leather at a small angle for putting leather strips onto violin bows. we want a really fine taper towards the edge of the leather so that it folds down nicely onto the bow stick.

"That" is called skiving, it's used to blend in pieces of leather. When you get down to it, many crafts are the same - going from woodworking to leatherworking isn't that big of a jump - the material is a bit more stretchy and mushy :) It's a really cool knife.

So you've ground off like 80% of the innitial mass of wood??You could easily make 3 such handles out of it. I can see this approach in most knife makers. I guess they kinda enjoy making tons of dust out of some fine wood. Other than that, the knife came out really neat.

Would you ever consider a knife giveaway or like a knife kit, like a knife blank and the handle material for someone that doesn't have access to get proper steel and the equipment to make the knife blank. Just a question love your work and will definitely try to save up for one of your knifes.

Absolutely beautiful knife. I'm a leatherworker and use a skiving knife that has a similar design, though it's a mass-produced one from Japan. The one you made is the kind that is kept forever, and passed on through the family. How would one go about sharpening this knife after it's been used awhile and it's lost its edge? Great filming, by the way.

thanks, I'd do it with diamond stones first to remove the bulk of the material. followed by flat waterstones to give it that nice edge

Nicely done! Always good to own such a tool. I guess it's even more imporgtant for a left hander (as I see this knife is) as there is not much choice available on the market.

Is there any reason you didn't at least grind the main portion of the bevel before heat treat, to keep from having to not only having to grind hardened steel, but also to have less risk in overheating and messing with the heat treat? I don't know much about this particular steel (more of a high carbon guy, personally) not sure if there is some positive trade off or what the reason may be?

haven't used it yet so I can't say for sure but I doubt it'll be able to do a better job than a dude with a waterstone and a bit of practice

gday DB Blades I just want to say thank you for giving me the inspiration to create this channel dedicated to making blades I know at the moment I haven't uploaded but that's because I'm working on a project at the moment which when done I will upload. my fist project is making a machete to see what I can do. I'm starting of big because there's more material so its more forgiving than something small where if I remove a bit too much material it won't matter as much.

Great work... But couldn't you have started with small pieces of wood? I mean even if it had been flush it would be really small compared to what you started with. Then you went undersized at that. Seems you could have made five knives of that size with that chunk of wood.

you could leave the bend in ,there are skiving knives that are supposed to be bent

take some sand paper like 1000 grid, 1500,2000,2500,3000 then cut them in long lines, and make ur own flap disc (glue them on) to put on a drill, use those flap discs with sand paper to get the satin finish, 15 minutes max
