Beautiful knife, any reason you hand sand before heat treatment? Is the purpose of the hole on the plunge line for looks or weight savings?

While I don’t know exactly what it’s for, I do know that having the lanyard at the front of the handle keeps it in your hand if you lose your grip rather than dangling below your wrist. Maybe that’s why? Would be nice to know.
