As someone who recently picked up Knife making as a hobby, I can tell you that this man is genuinely skillful to be able to get such a consistent and even bevel with a grinder.

I am doing it with an angle grinder too and i must say: it´s not as hard with a little bit of practice.

Grinders should not vibrate too much, so it shouldn't take that much practice to get a straight (consistent) bevel with one I tried 😂

When I first started making knives in 1992 I heat treated my O1 tool steel knives in charcoal and used a shop vac blower to increase the heat. I used canola oil too. I used a 3x21 belt sander clamped to my picnic table for a lot of my grinding and here's a tip. For grinders use the sanding discs which only go up to 120 grit and glue higher grit sandpaper to them. I used this method with sanding drums too. Use wet dry sandpaper and it lasts for a longer time.

If the Tenacious is still one of your favorite knives, you should check out the Byrd Raven 2. G10 plus bd1 steel, with a nice finger choil. $35 on Amazon, yes made in China but gets the job done. Steel from your state, CTS, and still part of Spyderco. Yes! Finally someone who likes the Endura 4 in ZDP-189. Such a good value, IMO. Love your videos, going to get some soft bricks and fire up some craftsmanship of my own. Keep up the sweetness! Thanks from the Hudson Valley, NY.

Thanks! The rust issue is tough as it depends what type of steel is used and if it has a coating (I've seen rusts on coated blades too). It also depends on the type of grind and blade shape etc. So theres a lot of variables to consider. 😀

You should try a strop on a curved surface for hawkbills and recurve blades. With karambits I find them a bit scary to spin around the finger if the ring is too thin or big, especially after hearing about someone getting bit on their own wrist
