There are hundreds of videos on YT on knife sharpening. All with varying opinions. It's amazing how complicated this topic is.

I've been knife sharpening for 3 years, and what I've learned is exactly what this guy is saying. The edge you want will vary with what the purpose of the knife is but ideally you want the bur short, straight and with what looks like small corrigations all the way along it.

I use the elongated polishing attachment on the dremmel to touch up my wife's serrated bread knife. She just bought me a Winkler which I'm trying to decide on whether I need to reprofile. Feels sharp but doesn't cut the way I thought it would. I've been sharpening my knives for close to thirty years and I love it. Everything else dissappears when I'm in sharpening mode.

Helpful sharpening video, things like blade shape and thickness. The conversation about the micro "saw edge" for cutting rope, hair, straps... was excellent. Thumbs up and subscribed

Those spyderco ceramic stones work well in the field. You can just strop on those to bring the edge back. Then strop on the leather sheath that comes with the stones. Or a leather belt. Easy peasy.

Worksharp precision professional adjust. Look it up. It's an all in 1 unit. Highly recommended. It does all my blades razor sharp. I have a very good quality roller type as well and they are great for edge maintenance on kitchen knives.

For serrated knives like victorknox serrated paring knives all you need is a small diameter diamond or ceramic round file even a chainsaw file

In other words, sharpening your knife and keeping your knives sharp is like fitness; you need to have a base level of knowledge and you need consistency. Theres just no way around it. If you want something razor sharp for your edc and you’re not willing to commit the time and effort into making and maintaining a sharp quality blade, then you should just edc a boxcutter capable of replacing blades.

Most people don't have the skills and abrasive necessary to sharpen things like K390, 10V etc... if you do invest in good sharpening skills and tools, the knife world becomes a whole lot more fun.

I have/use a tapered diamond rod for serrations. The pull threw sharpeners are not wise because if you have a knick or roll it will only continue with that contour.

In my experience, regular stropping can really reduce the amount of time you have to spend on stones where you're abrading a lot more metal.

Thats why my favorite knives have always been Hollow Ground, Extra Hollow, and Super Hollow Ground Solingen Germany fixed blades. They take an edge like a straight razor

Never cared for serrated blades for all of those reasons.. also where the serrations would be is imo the sharpest section of a straight blade that you would be giving up

800 grit water stone and a steel. All my knives from the kitchen to my belt get this treatment. Razor sharp is about concentrating on the edges that you're grinding.

There’s some truth and some false in this video, MKC is not what I would call a “veteran of knife makers” I consider him fairly new in the scene, he makes great blades, but I would have picked someone different for the subject… just for reference super steels are not harder to sharpen… just takes longer… not that much longer… also some supersteels high carbon like CRUWEAR, super high edge wear but sharpens as easy as Anything else 🤷‍♂️ Don’t encourage Mike to use that disc junk, and Angle makes a difference in edge durability and ease of cut… Get a stone and practice.. every one can get it using a sharpie to see where you’re removing materials… or even a KME …sharpening is not that hard! Stop over complicating it!

Anyone who pays this guy's prices it's a cult member or social media hypebeast. You don't see his knives in butcher shops or kitchens for a reason (unless they are a social media butcher/ kitchen). Utter buffoonery
