Merry Christmas to you and Thomas, my parents got me a Buck 110 for Christmas in 1981, I still have it and I carried to school back in the day and nobody cared that all the boys carried knives. How times have changed. Best wishes to all.

The Gerber LST was my first pocket knife with a clip. Gerber offered a model with a chicago screw and a pocket clip that attached through the lanyard hold. My brother in law appropriated it from me in 91 during a visit and it was his every day utility knife until sometime in the mid 2000s. When I needed a small and unobtrusive knife, I got another LST, or whatever model of the LST that was smaller than the Maglite Solitaire.

$50 or less - recommended favorites: Spyderco Persistance ($46), Cold Steel Tuff Lite ($33), Ka-Bar Dozier D2 ($42). All but the Dozier can remove pocket clip.

Alternate for the Buck 112 Slim, check out the Ka-Bar Dozier. Very light and slim, inexpensive - though there's a D2 model that still comes in under the $50 limit. Has a clip, but no reason you couldn't take that off.

My EDC for years now has been a Benchmade Barrage. It has done me well and I love that the knife has the ability to lock closed. Between a few previous experiences with knives coming open in my pocket and the extra peace of mind it affords with kids in the house, it’s something I’ve grown to love even though it adds an extra step in the opening process. Looking to expand my collection of folders and prefer knives that have this feature. Do you have any recommendations?

Hey DCA, I was hoping you could find me a knife that has been eluding me. I am trying to find a sub 3in(maybe closer to 2.5in) knife with micarta scales and has a button or crossbar lock. My favorite knives to carry are my Kizer mini sheepdog, Malibu, and Darkform Slimfoot. Yes, I do have a type. So, bonus points if you can find it in a sheep’s foot/wharncliffe blade with a stone wash finish. Thanks

Knife prices get crazy sometimes. I bought a Bugout a few years ago for around $115. The same green handle/grey blade is closer to $180. I, sadly, lost it at owkr one day and have held out on replacing it because to the current pricing. The Kizer Dropbear might be a solid replacement, even if a bit heavier.

Sharpening question: Whether I sharpen on a stone or fixed angle system, the heel always takes much longer to develop a burr. Is this common, is the thickness behind the edge thicker at the heel? Finally, is there a tip or trick to ensure the heel gets a burr more easily?

DCA, help a brother out. I'm in search of the perfect gentleman's carry. I've seen a few knives check all the boxes, yet the perfect specimen eludes me. The CRKT Flat Out with it's needle-like blade (no belly) and pure design where the blade doesn't protrude when closed is excellent. The new Civivi Clavi is a direct hit on all of the aesthetics. The extreme sheepsfoot point and minimal profile rock. If I could find something like these with more premium materials (say $350 or less), well that would be THE BEE'S KNEES. Curveball: I don't like front flippers. Make the match. I'll call her "Angel."

Hi David! I love hearing your insights to the audience's questions--especially the obscure ones. I was hoping you could make a recommendation for me. I am right-handed, but have a severely arthritic right thumb. I am looking for a locking EDC knife that can be opened with one hand, but I need to be able to open the knife AND manipulate the lock without the use of my thumb. I have no limit on price, but the "thumb free" manipulation is an absolute must. Any suggestions? Thanks!

DCA, I have a handmade leather front pocket organizer that I carry about five different things, including a folding pocket knife. I find that the Civivi Lumi is just about perfect (great width and thickness with the other items I have). However, like some people I have seen I struggle with the top flipper. I do have some of the original CRKT CEO’s and they are good but maybe a bit tall and narrow. Any other suggestions about the same size as the Lumi? Thanks Respectfully, Steve

Hey there DCA, i recently atempted to sharpen a couple of my knives, and i was wondering if there really is a big difference between 3V and S30V? i have a benchmade bailout 537 with the 3V blade, and a mini osborne 945 in S30V. For some reason, the bailout picked up a sharp edge very well but i seem to be having trouble with the 945. would this come down to my technique? or is that one material sharpens easier than the other? im using the worksharp guided field sharpener or should i consider using a different system? thanks happy holidays to all!

Hey DCA and Thomas, hello from Italy! I was thinking about buying a new little knife for EDC, and i would like to have your opinion. I was looking for something for office tasks, no hard work. I like small knives, something around 50$ (or €). I also like underrated knives, something not so “famous”. I already own a Boker Atlas with scissors, a Kershaw Shuffle, Opinel 6, 7 and 8 and a lot of swiss army knives. I like something like the Civivi Lumi, have tou got any other suggestion that could fit my idea? Thanks and sorry for my bad english! And Merry Christmas to all of you!

An obscure alternate for the Victorinox Cheese Master - how about the Richartz Ultima Picnic 7? Hard to find these days, but a really unique little knife that splits in two so you can use the knife and fork separately. It's a fun trick and it is a well-built and functional multi-tool knife despite the novelty.
@TheScotchaholic

How about splitting into 3? The Kabar Hobo folder: spoon, fork, and lockback clip point blade all in one form factor, then separable. Been using it for all my hiking/camping outings - the Hobo is still available for sale.
@jaredm450
@jaredm450 Жыл бұрын
@@TheScotchaholic That's a sweet knife too. I'd like to get one for camping. In this case the guy wanted a corkscrew and didn't need a spoon however. I wish Victorinox would incorporate that separable design into some of their larger tools. E.g. a Swiss champ is cool, but also kind of silly because it's so wide. If it could be broken apart into pieces though...
