I am 70 now, but a few years ago I saw the "Shun Higo-No Kami Personal Steak Knife" advertised online & decided that I needed it for an additional edc & also for dining out. I used to be an EMT & my catch line when asked is it is always better to make an incision over a laceration lol!!! But that little knife is elegant, attractive, quality made, easily cleaned & tuned up after dragging the tip across ceramic plates & is well protected by the leather sheath in pocket. Just made for the "steak house"!!!

As a farmer in interior Alaska, I understand the problems of knife inaccessibility with winter clothing very well. I have carried a neck knife in the past, but you either tuck them in, in which case they're still inaccessible without unzipping your coat, or they dangle and catch on things. My preferred solution is a sheath with a wire belt clip that you can clip in different locations, depending on what you're wearing and what you're doing - inside a coat pocket, on the top of your bibs, in a cargo pocket, on the back of a mitten, on a pack strap, etc.

Hi David, My first question wasn't able to be answered in the last vid, so here it goes again! that Hope you can help me out: I'm looking for a folding knife, with the following features: 1) Flipper (that becomes a "guard") 2) Frame Lock (will consider an Axis-style, or any kind of lock but **MUST** be bomb-proof strong) 3) Thumb Hole, either oval or round, doesn't matter, but **MUST** have it... 4) About 3" or more Blade Length 5) Pointy, not Wharncliffe, but needs some belly. 6) Optional: Full Flat Grind, finger choil, assist or bearings in the pivot. 7) See if you can recommend me a budget and a premium version each. Thanks so much, have been looking for one for ages!

I've always wondered what many peoples reasons for carrying knives are. Personally I've carried daily since I was around 13. Reason being one day my aunt and uncle showed up late for a family gathering. They had a person flip their car behind them and become trapped. Nobody who stopped to help had a knife on them to cut the seat belt to get the person out of the overturned car. My aunt found an old pair of scissors in her trunk and was able to use them to free the person. Shortly after they got her free the car caught fire. Ever since I have carried a blade. Luckily I have never been in a life or death situation that required a blade but I do find daily uses for my knives. Anyone have a good story as to why they carry?
@FoxMacLeod25014 жыл бұрын
If you need to remove tape residue from a blade, particularly a non-stainless one, WD-40 gets it clean and provides a little protection against oxidation when you're done.

Aloha Sir Dave, was more than happy to subscribe even without your plea. My son, a fellow blade junky, turned me on to your heaven sent site. But I have no doubt this question will never air because of how hated the topic... That being, why do we never see Tac Force and/or MTech blades? Granted, not the best steel but as a fellow soldier serving in the most elite forces of the U.S. Army, I would never go back into the field for ANY reason without my trusted line-up. Inexpensive, yes. Lower quality steel, perhaps. But to stay alive is, after all, why a blade is the most important tool besides a sound mind. I would serve dinner to half of ISIS to get my son a Troodon but I'd have to donate a kidney. Cheaper suggestion?

Hi David. Two questions. 1. I own and love to EDC small fixed blade knives. They are always my primary, often paired with a folder; I own and really enjoy my small TOPS knives i.e. CAT, Scalpel 1 &2 ect... but I would like to try either an Esse (smaller than a 3) or Ka-Bar BK as I do not have any. What would be your first recommendation? 2. I am also looking to step up to a more premium small EDC fixed blade as well with a stainless supersteel; kydex and micarta/richlite preferred. Under $200 would be nice too, but don't let that dictate too much. Thank you. Best host on youtube for real.

Sorry for the negativity but acetone is a brain killer. It will even penetrate bare skin. If you can smell it it is slowly turning your brain to mush. I know neck knives have a lot of advantages but also know of a man that tripped in the jungle while wearing a neck knife. Even with a decent sheath it punctured his chest wall and that was it. I wear a neck knife but only a folder and only when necessary. And to be more positive you have my vote. Very good reviews and having a Q and A is outstanding. Those Victorinox steak knives look like a good alternative to pricier asian offerings.
