@@Bingo1Dog Right. A clone is when someone steals your design and slaps their logo on it. A counterfeit is when someone steals your design and slaps YOUR logo on it. Clones steal potential sales, counterfeits steal potential sales and actively damage your brand since they're often poor quality, which can then come to be associated with your stuff. Clones are bad, counterfeits are worse.

I once looked at fake Rolexes in a street market in Thailand and they looked like dogshit to me, but I don't care at all about people making them or buying them. Also: How come LT Wright gets a pass for all those Alan Wood 'Woodlore' copies? Aren't they just knocking them out for a couple of hundred bucks because not everyone can afford the £1000+ a genuine Alan Wood model will cost them? (OK, I'm just ragging on LT Wright here but everyone makes a derivative of the Woodlore and nobody gives a shit.)

@Regolith863 жыл бұрын
@@twatmunro9563 Not everyone who is buying a counterfeit is doing so knowingly, so yes, sales of counterfeits absolutely steal potential sales. In fact, I'd say most people who buy counterfeits don't know what they're getting. Physical goods like knives are not like, say, video games, where if you want to get it legitimately it's pretty easy to do. There are a lot of shady retailers who will buy counterfeit goods and market them as originals, and people who don't know enough and can't tell the difference will buy them thinking they're getting the real deal. And you can't even always count on mainstream retailers to not sell counterfeits, knowingly or unknowingly. Amazon is notorious for this, mainly because all of their "Fulfilled by Amazon" stock for their various partners are comingled together, so if a shady partner sends Amazon a counterfeit item, it will get put into the same bin as the same type of item from a non-shady partner, and can be sent to any customer who orders that item, regardless of which partner they're actually buying from. As for clones, some people buy them not knowing that their designs have been ripped off from others, and would likely happily buy the originals instead if they knew about it. So yes, many sales of clones are also stealing potential sales.

if you need a Scandinavian grind folder. Cold steel finnwolf. Best EDC Scandi I’ve ever had. Carried for five years (every day) in addition to a couple other pocket knives for regular use. But whenever woodworking or getting branches out of your face while you’re working. Nothings better than a Scandi. It’s even a great one to toss in an emergency fire kit for hiking or backpacking. Incredibly thin, very light weight an exceptionally strong. PS. I’m a general contractor. I do framing and carpentry all the time. It does have a use in EDC. It’s also just a great secondary because it’s so thin and light weight and incredibly useful. Yes they’re not the greatest slicer. That’s why I carry others.

For me personally I found the tops did not feathers stick near as well as the cold steel and the handle was uncomfortable. But that’s just me and my hands. Personally when it comes to clones I'd say they're good as a trial sort of thing. You can get it in hand for cheap to determine if you like the feel and function before dumping a bunch into a knife and then finding out that you actually hate it or that it just doesn't work for you. They're also great for practicing customizations such as engraving, blade mods/carving or handle carving. You can do those things without the worry of messing up an expensive knife due to lack of experience. And again once you have experience and are comfortable doing so then you can do it with the real deal.

You can find a knife for whatever you need to do at an affordable price! Buying a clone that is a rip off of someone else’s hard work is just bullshit!
@kydd6663 жыл бұрын
The biggest problem with clones is the fact that you're belasically supporting theft. A designer has worked hard to put food on their table and clothes on their back just to have someone snatch it out from under them and profit off others hard work

DCA. I was thinking it would be cool if you featured some unique knives that will likely appreciate over time. What are some knifes that one would purchase for the collection with the purpose of stashing away to resell at a profit at a later date?

Short time ago, Mr. Sprave from ,slingdhot channel' showed his plans for a folding machete according to german law. If this knife is ever produced, surely in very small number, it is perhaps the thing, the last noted person looks for.

Hey dca, I recently picked up a boker atlas in brass and love the knife. My question is, how do I maintain the knife if I can't take it apart? It doesn't seem like the kind that can be taken apart.

Hey D.C.A., I already have a few knives with various opening methods, but I don't have a flipper. What are my options in the $100 range (give or take 50) for a flipper with the best action that's not made in china. Thanks!

QSP penguin, how can blue jean micarta be threatening! Honestly there are so many options at that price point. DCA might need a few more specs in there to help out. Any handle material you prefer? Blade shape? Lock type? Size?

@@ml8067 I've seen the penguin, but I'd rather a less agressive blade shape (rounder if possible)

Try the KA-BAR Dozier tan D2 blade Blue Zytel Handles cant get much less threating and still be a knife. the Kizer Cutlery Vanguard Mini Begleiter with n690 is a good pick as well.

Have you ever reviewed or used any of the The Bushcraft Store (TBS) knives? Living in the UK with strict knife laws, I've been looking for an EDC, non-locking folder, under 3 inches (76.2mm), but capable of taking on tougher outdoor tasks than a SAK. The TBS Boar Mk3 which looks like it would hit the mark, but wondered if you or anyone else at the Knife Centre had any experience with them. Alternatively, do you have any suggestions that could meet the specs above? Much love from Sheffield, England!

Been looking for a Sterling silver knife or scales to combine knife and precious metals collecting. I assume Sterling silver would make a bad blade so just silver scales would do it.

Hi DCA 👋 Im interested in knives with "unique abilities" like the the Hawk mudd (the only dirt proof folding knife) or the Hawk Deadlock (the only OTF without bladeplay) Do you have any recommendations for me? Thanks in advance 👍

I've been hearing recently that s30v steel is easy to chip and to avoid this steel for any moderate to hard use. Is this true? Also what is the best steel for moderate to hard use in a folding edc? Thanks
@Regolith863 жыл бұрын
I've been carrying S30V pocket knives for 15 years now, and I've never had one chip. But I don't use them for hard use. If I'm cutting something that will more than likely damage the blade, like cardboard with staples in it or opening a bag of concrete, I usually use a utility knife. I'd probably do the same thing if I had a knife with more durable steel, like 3V, to be honest. No point in risking an expensive blade when you can get utility blades for ten cents a pop.
@BlueWingedRino3 жыл бұрын
Total crap that morons on the internet parrot cause someone else said it. Any steel can be chippy if heat treated improperly.

Looking for a warehouse work knife, something with a bit of flash so everyone will recognize it as mine and get it back to me if I loan it to a co-worker, and not overly intimidating if my co-worker isn't a knife person. Something that can take a bit of rough treatment in a work environment.

Scandi grind knives have a tendency for the edge not to be adequately supported after sharpening! Scandi convex is the way to go....

Something else you'll find with SOG that you won't find with the other crossbar lock designs is injection molded buttons. I do not consider that a positive thing.

Hey DCA, I am getting married and looking to gift a knife to my groomsmen. None of them are 'knife guys' at the moment, so what would be a good knife to introduce them to? I was thinking of going classic RAT-1, but would appreciate your suggestions. Also, I would need to buy 4 of them so something less than $100 would be preferable. Thanks.

There's a lot to be said for your praise of Hogue -- I just acquired from you guys the Presidio II in CFElite and while I adore the blade length and shape (and have only praise for the CFElite), out of the box it was as stiff and .. well.. USELESS-seeming as a much less expensive knife. It has loosened over the last couple of weeks, but it took far more concerted effort than I'd like.
@K1ng.lizalde3 жыл бұрын
Yep bought a benchmade super freek and was utterly shocked at the action it was horrible and for having the prices that high I expect a knife that has Atleast okay action right out the box. I had to take it apart (hate that I void the warranty even though I put everything back right) once I took it apart and lubed it it was much much better after some time the action was great but still when I bought a hogue deka and a Doug ritter I immediately checked the action and it was okay not buttery smooth but able to flick it open and close so I’m not complaining. just wished benchmade could do a little begged

Ok David... how about your definition of a custom knife? Does the use of custom knife applied to scales on a production knife undercut actual production knives?

I love your guys videos, this has to be one of the most insightful and informed knife channels out there. Keep up the great work! Can you give recommendations for pocket sized fixblades with proper sized handles under 100 bucks? As in setting apart from most neck knives that are usually smaller with two or three finger grip handles. Looking forward to the new Böker Barlow BFF (designed by Lucas Burnley) to be released end of October, but are there any similar sized knives out there? (Other than the Mora Eldris). Would love to hear your opinion. Thanks and best regards

Hey DCA, ive been wondering who makes the best copper scaled knives because im considering buying one (fidgety action is important as well). I prefer a darker copper as opposed to a lighter pink copper like kershaw uses, im thinking the qsp penguin or some sort of civivi. Whats your opinion?
@danielwendell5423 жыл бұрын
Copper scales are pretty common aftermarket pieces if you want! Flytanium makes scales for lots of popular models, and you can either keep them shiny or patina them as you see fit!
