I've heard people who are knife reviewers actually rave about certain knives done in 7cr, I think it all comes down to the heat treatment. I highly doubt Buck which is known for their heat treats would put a blade that doesn't hold a edge on a $60 msrp knife. I don't care for the knives but they have to pass QC to get the Buck name.

I dont understand how buck stays in business. The classics are great (love my 119 and 112) but every time they're like "we have something new and exciting" it's always something that everyone else has been doing for years in an outdated steal and they charge an arm and a leg for it. They're like the Windows Explorer of knife companies

Wow, could you imagine Buck bringing back out a modern Buckmaster that had the same blade as the original they would’ve probably sold out
@charliedontsurf736010 ай бұрын
Yeah, they should've just re-released the 184, if they were going to re-imagine it the least they could've done to pay homage to it is utilize the exact same blade shape/design, cross guard, and make it full tang this time around in a modern steel. Should've made 3 models. One limited run EXACTLY like the old ones, but in updated blade steel. And a re-imagined version as I previously described, same blade shape, cross guard, but full tang handle. One new re-imagined model smoothe, with flat spine. And one new version with sawback spine. Whatever that abortion they are calling a "Buckmaster" is a travesty.
@geico197511 ай бұрын
Oh yeah, I've been anticipating DCA's take on Buck 2024:) I will already say this the newer EDC's with 7CR steel is a jaw dropper IMO, why not 420HC? JEEZ! I'm more excited about Buck's fixed blades myself.

@John5.5610 ай бұрын
420 is a bottom of the barrel steel as well. I can’t understand why such a legend of a knife maker continues to put out such garbage. If they sold their popular knives in 420HC as a budget option that would be one thing, but the majority of their blades are garbage as far as modern knives go and if it’s anything better than 420hc it’s ridiculously expensive just because of the name. But to each their own I suppose.

@Rruns2611 ай бұрын
As a Buckmaster owner and huge fan, I’m disappointed in what they are calling a Buckmaster. It’s nothing like the original Buckmaster. If I saw that knife sitting on a table, the word Buckmaster would not come to mind. Either bring back the 184, or do something that truly pays tribute to the knife. Something that resembles the original, other than the name. And price it reasonably. What I see with fixed blades (this is why the Topps table is always busy), prices above $200 start running off a lot of buyers. I’ve bought a lot of Topps knives in the $120 to $140 range. I saw someone posted the 2.0 price is $800. LOL! No thanks. A nice looking tribute, maybe $400. And he kept calling the knife a dive knife. The original was never marketed as a dive knife. I have a collection of vintage and new dive knives, none of them look like the new Buck. It’s very confusing what Buck was trying to do here… And very disappointing.

He found the saw back ineffective as a saw. When he dropped his knife, the tip broke off. Buck replaced the knife. Gee thanks, I'd rather have a serious knife, not a fantasy knife.
