I think that while they have the same running speed, brutes go into sprint faster than grunts. Grunts take a second or so to start running when they see you, just waddling at you at first, while brutes break into sprint right away. Though it might have to do with brute ai taking less time to pathfind due to them being in bigger areas in general. Nevermind, it was adressed lol.
@umukzusgelos4834 Жыл бұрын
the difference isn´t much and it depends on proximity if you are within somewhere around 2-3 Meters of them they will most often then not just walk towards you and start running after 2-3 seconds for the Grunt and a little bit less for the brute if they start running at all, the brute´s approach walk is also a wee bit faster if they spot you from further away and you actively increase the distance both will get in gear relatively quickly, as long as eye contact is maintained, if eye contact is lost within under a second or two they will likely just stagger in your general direction for a bit before giving up the only thing were the Brute outclasses the Grunt is the speed at which he breaks down doors and the damage he deals per swing, with his running attack doing the highest damage in the game, often resulting in instant death he also looks for you a couple seconds longer but that´s about it

Though I doubt this is really true, I have a long-standing theory that brutes are servants of the Shadow rather than Alexander's Gatherers. They kill prisoners, they're never seen around grunts, they're in all the areas most overtaken by the Shadow (which we've seen tear grunts apart) and, most damningly, their appearance is eerily similar to how Daniel in his journal describes the victims of the Shadow - 'limbs scattered, heads split down the middle, their skin flayed as if boiled'. While grunts look alive, brutes look like corpses that have been cobbled back together, perhaps piloted by something other than a human consciousness.
@celeb-seventeen Жыл бұрын
Reason this falls short imho is all the attachments present on the Brute. I don't think an cosmic horror would need to duct tape a creature back, just resurrect it rlly.
@Safiyahalishah Жыл бұрын
@@celeb-seventeen It would depend on what the Shadow could actually do with the bodies it resurrected. It's capable of destruction but we don't know if it's capable of 'healing'. I don't think the Shadow is all-powerful because it's so bad at doing its one job lol.
@celeb-seventeen Жыл бұрын
@@Safiyahalishah It is more than capable of resurrection if not, outright healing off all injuries. Case in point? Daniel. What one job if I may ask tho?
@Safiyahalishah Жыл бұрын
@@celeb-seventeen If we count game design as part of the Shadow's influence, then sure, I can see where you're coming from. XD I personally don't, because a lot of games do this. _A Machine for Pigs,_ for example. Its one job is to protect the Orbs and, from the looks of it, 'avenge' them, or eliminate those who have used them. I also agree with the theory that the Shadow is using Daniel to achieve that goal, but again, that quite specifically fails to imply an all-powerful force. It took so long to reach Brennenburg, despite being drawn to the Orbs. When it finally arrived, you'd think it could just raze the castle to the ground, but it doesn't seem capable of that. If it would recruit one man it can't even communicate with, it's not so far-fetched to imagine that its will could raise the dead to achieve the same end. (I don't think it's a coincidence there were brutes wherever there were pieces of the Orb.)
@celeb-seventeen Жыл бұрын
@@Safiyahalishah Fair enough (idk much about AMFP or later Amnesia games and their respawn mechanics) but if it's just an standard video game save/load then yeah, they canonically weren't meant to die there, but in the Dark Descent, events change, monsters disappear, etc so Death in the Dark Descent has to be SOMETHING take into account. (Especially how Alexander wants to bank on Daniel giving up for him to die truly) if his servants have proven useless and didn't kill him (interestingly also bringing him to the cells)

5:10 I'd love to see a clip of that, first time hearing about that! Also it's really interesting who the Brute really is... since he was killed by the shadow it means he came in contact with the orb directly or indirectly. Was he one of Wilhelm's men or someone more significant?
@red-man70173 ай бұрын
Just a thought: The brute thats seen throughout the game is the transformed Wilhelm. Given that we only see one alone, its possible that only one exists...wilhelm. That large cleaver sword replacing its left arm? Just a stretch, but i believe that this is wilhelms sword or held weapon, and based on its position, he was left handed. When wilhelm transformed into the brute, he lost his left arm and his sword got fused as its replacement.

I can't believe I never realized this before, but the Brute's cleaver looks a lot like the hooked weapons used in the Middle Ages to pull riders from their horses. I think this is further evidence that the Brute is specifically designed to chase down intruders and escaped prisoners, with the hooked end of its blade meant to snag a target that's actively trying to run away.

Couple things I wanted to add just because, -Brutes could be victims of The Shadow. Daniel in his journal entries explains the victims as dismembered, boiled skin, and heads split. -Idk if it is a glitch or not, but sometimes in the Choir two Brutes will spawn, suggesting there's at least two. -I like to think The Shadow did it cause I think it's cooler that way, but it's possible a Brute killed the dismembered Grunt in the Sewers. If this is the case, then there could be some sort of relationship, good or bad, between Grunts and Brutes.
@umukzusgelos48342 ай бұрын
yeah, I was pondering over these things for a long time as well, some of them I believe I can debunk with the information given in the games code, so for instance two Brutes in the Choir is not the intended result of the developers, they even left behind a message stating that the callbacks must be arranged in such a manner that there is only ever one Brute present Considering the Shadows involvement, I´m not quite sure, while some of their traits do align with Daniels descryptions, I think their appearance might be a manifestation of Daniels Trauma of witnessing the Victims, the Shadow is stated to bend reality and cause hallucinations so the adversarys hunting Daniel through the Castle assuming the appearance of the Victims of his past transgressions would align with the theme of Guilt the developers wanted to achieve originally further yet, Brutes often appear and disappear under peculiar circumstances and in oddly specific locations, much more so then their lesser counterparts, so chances are that they are in essence just regular Gatherers but as Daniels sanity dwindles as he descents and he begins to recall his past, his Guilt makes them appear more monstrous, more deformed and ultimately more dangerous At one point I want to pick up these topics again in a video, there is a lot to unpack in the Lore of Amnesia and a lot of subtle storytelling that does not immediately catch peoples eye, but I am quite glad that people still take a shine to these old stories

I can't say I agree with the theory on who the brutes are. Heads split open, skin flayed as if boiled - this is the description of the victims of the Shadow. I also think the only evidence of the brutes being Alexander's servants is the fact they are stitched together with iron plating and a weapon. Their actions and common haunts really give the impression that, if anything, they are working against Alexander.
