@@TheBadassTonberry That's not true actually. The opposite. Just look up the Wikipedia article of random professors. It'll list their full name, and then mention that they are a professor. For example: Sucharit Bhakdi (thailändisch สุจริต ภักดี [sut̚˨˩.t͡ɕa˨˩.rit̚˨˩ pʰak̚˦˥.diː˧]; * 1. November 1946 in Washington, D.C.) ist ein deutscher Facharzt für Mikrobiologie und Infektionsepidemiologie. Er ist emeritierter Professor der Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz And someone you are meeting outside of a formal context would considered extremely arrogant for insisting on being called their title. Like if you are doing some random hobby, or meat someone having drinks or whatever. They'd never insist on their titles being used unless they are a pompous arsehole.

Congratulations to Professor Poliakoff and his worthy supporters in receiving such a great honor and joining such a high rank. As a teacher from across the pond, I find the historic A - Z list of recipients for Knighthood a very diverse and most admirable group. I was gladdened to find the the name of Abdu’l-Baha, a Central Figure of the Baha'i Faith, at the very top of the list. During World War I when a blockade threatened the lives of many civilians in Haifa, Abdu’l-Baha saved them from starvation. He personally organized extensive agricultural operations near Tiberias, stored wheat underground and distributed it to the inhabitants. At war’s end, in recognition of His painstaking accomplishments, He was knighted Sir Abdu’l-Baha ‘Abbas, K.B.E on 27 April 1920 at the British Governor's residence in Haifa at a ceremony held in His honor.

Those who have a passion for their area of science and take the time to share their knowledge and get others excited about science are the true heroes of our society. Instead, we celebrate athletes and celebrities. I became interested in electronics when I was 9 years old. (I'm 49 now.) If it wasn't for adults, who were much more knowledgeable than I was, taking time out of their lives to foster and sustain my interest, I wouldn't be were I am today. I am an electronics engineer and have had an incredibly rewarding career. The most exciting part of my life has been being able to help younger people get interested in science. No matter which area of science you pursue, you will be exposed to other areas. Ten years ago, I became employed at a chemical company. I had forgotten most of the chemistry from my early education, but because of videos like these, I'm able to perform my job with greater understanding, efficiency and, most of all, safety for myself and others. Every year, our life expectancy increases because of science. The iPad I am typing this on wouldn't be possible without science. Unfortunately, here in the U.S., people are more interested in what the Kardashians are doing, instead of what the latest advancements in science are. For those of us who's career is based in science, it's our responsibility to ignite the passion for science in our younger generation. Societies advance because of science.... not because your favorite sports team won a title. I dream of a world where scientists get the 50 million dollar contracts instead of athletes. Sir Martyn Poliakoff, I bow to you, in reverence, for your accomplishments and for your passion to share your knowledge and passion for science. P.S. You rock that hair like no one else could!!! :-)

Though Norway is a monarchy, we don't have a nobility apart from the royal family. The bestowing of titles, knighthoods and similar, is not a "regular thing" here, so it has no value, (no social protocols). However, the British system, as practiced now, is great for recognising achievement, in a cheap but meaningful way. Having someone who calls themselves "sir", or being presented as "sir", will be noticed. Too bad the professor isn't working on something extraordinary, so he could receive a Nobel's Price (the ultimate honour a scientist can receive)

Congratulations on the Honors. I'm glad to see such good work recognized and rewarded. My best to you and all your staff and we all hope to see more in the future. Keep us asking questions!

Well deserved to one of the humblest educators of the internet. You reach many people all over the globe - I watch you frequently all the way from the tip of Africa. From an ordinary Martins, to an extraordinary and inspiring fell of science; a professor who was smart enough to heed advice from your young son. We salute you, ....cheers Sir Martyn!!!!

Congratulations on the recognition Martyn, but the idea of an unelected monarch deigning to "honour" the little people is abhorrent. Had Martin received the honour from the British Chemist's, or KZbin Educators, or Former Pupils Committee, it would count for farrr more. Awards such as this are frequently decided by the ignorant, and subject to politics.

or your negativity supersedes your appreciation for the achievement, the professor worked long and hard to share his knowledge with the rest of us, and he articulated himself brilliantly, most professors don't have the approach sir martyn has, especially over youtube where questions are rarely answered by the prof himself. to be recognised by "royalty" means your work intrigues and interests those with power. the youtube thing is brady's baby, the channels and the professors, the students the experiments are all thanks to brady, ontop of that sir martyn has shown us rare materials and sensitive compounds with great accuracy and amazingly conversing with the camera so freely it's like he's right there. but yeah you're right a crappy youtube association will definitely improve his status, not to mention the incredible satisfaction for receiving a cardboard reward from a cheap site making money from ideas by the public. ooh, did i forget to mention youtube is a pyramid scheme stealing money from the public. if any of these youtubers were actually making gold, they'd work in the real world earning real rewards, think about it, youtube makes money from people playing games and then more people watching those videos and trying to copy them, thus youtube makes more money from ads on unknown channels (who activate them too early) a couple of thousand respectable youtubers and the rest is just a feed bag for youtube, but yeah a youtube reward will benefit sir martyn "farrr more". so it takes ignorant people in politics to recognise sir martyn? or does it take years of dedication? youtube for a few years....versus a lifetime of work..... hmmmm *I WONDER WHICH ONE IS THE BETTER ACCOLADE* .

swanclipper"or your negativity supersedes your appreciation for the achievement" That's because Martyn's achievement is trivial compared to the greater issue of whether or not an unelected, unwanted monarch loooong past her sell-by date should give out awards chosen by others to the little people. You obviously have childish anti-capitalist issues with youtube, even as you use their service to watch some of the greatest minds on the planet for free. Hypocrite much? And no, the queen's "honours" have been shown time and again to be wildly misplaced, frequently political, and emblematic of a system of patronage that is centuries out of date.

Mat Broomfield Actually, the British Monarch is very wanted. Check on CPGrays videos on the subject. Much British land not only legally belongs to the monarchs but also they are a gold mine for tourists.
@Martial-Mat10 жыл бұрын
Rashik30 How can anything legally belong to people that was originally taken by force? Britain's entire history is one of civil and international conquest. The fact that many people want the monarchy carries no weight. Racism is very wanted too. As for them being a gold mine for tourists, that would be fine if their position was 100% symbolic, but it's not. Turn them into a self sustaining business - if they earn their own upkeep and that of all their properties, then I have less problem.

Mat Broomfield The world's greatests countries in terms of scientific and cultural output (The Roman Empire, al-Andalus and moorish North Africa, the early Spanish Empire, Victorian Britain, Ming China, etc), were based on a history of conquests, they also happened to be kingdoms or empires, so being ruled by a king, queen, emperor, dictator, etc, is not, by itself, a bad thing.

I realised this now, but i have listened to sir martyn more than my own grand father, then I realised how much of my interest in chemistry was inspired by these videos. Thank you so much

He totally deserves it because he is a true chemist loyal, experiensted and bonded to science. I wish all professors had his energy and will to offer education and knowledge to other people.

it's people like you, willing to do these videos, that help the general public, who, is interested, yet lacking means of knowledge, and or help understanding this information, that is all helping all types of people to be more interested, and more willing to pursue science as a career or at least a way to understand there own planet and own molecular make up as a person . thank you
