I like how armor is so effective in protection that most of these fights end in wrestling and trying to slip a dagger into the armor nooks. Not that you guys are actually trying to kill each other, but the daggers are usually the “decisive” blows in these bouts

Beautiful duel. What's your definition of a counter attack? And in what it differs from a parry?
@dequitem Жыл бұрын
It depends to the context. Sometimes it's the attack after an enemies attack, but sometimes it's an attack that hits the opponent and parries with the crossguard at the same time, like some of the halfsword thrusts.

Do you guys choose more flexible blades for harness fencing for safety or is it just because they are from HEMA fencing? For example at 0:42 Felix managed to get the halfsword behind your neck probably trying to lever you down to the ground but wasn't able to pull off the technique with the flexibility of the blade.
@dequitem11 ай бұрын
It's the force. The blades are 17 kg. Most hema blades bend up to 12 kg. 17 kg is around the historical weight to bend the blades. But sometimes we also use blades from Sigi forge to have more safety.

So... Question about finishes with a dagger. Im a Lefty. Would that give me an advantage in the final struggle since id be able to pick between locking my opponents arm with my dominant and stabbing with my right, or stabbing with my left and dodging his stab since were on the same side and he has a harder time reaching? What tactics could a southpaw employ to have the advantage in a finishing blow? Since most people are righties i think expecting a finish from the left would be less expected

Interesting - but what is the point of using sharp weapons for stab and slash? They dont seem to have any effect on plate armour? Did knights historically cling each other to death like this? I understand that killing blows likely came from getting to soft spots with daggers or something. What I dont understand is the initial sword fighting. Shoulsnt they wrestle straight away?
