Dukes of Hazzard used a lot of rear-projection process for in-car shots, rather than green screen, which would have been more time consuming. Even if they did chroma-keying, it would more likely have been blue screen in the 80s. Green screen didn't become more dominant until profession digital cameras were in use. The sensors on digital cameras are more sensitive to and capture more detail in green, so it provides cleaner digital keying than blue.
@danfors13338 ай бұрын
Yes croma-keying would have been very obvious because of the sharp black siluetts. Very difficult to minimize that back then, even in high production movies and in TV-shows it would have looked even worse. Only time chroma-keying looked good back then was when done against black backgrounds in space, like Star Wars.
@GarretGrayCameraАй бұрын
They changed to green in the 80s/90s because blue created too many wardrobe conflicts. Not many wear that shade of green so that’s how they came to change it up.

@@jjdigitalvideosolutionsllc5343 It may be better for digital, but they’ve been using green since the 60s mainly for different shots that require blue for blue clothing or the color was physically in the scene or to provide more contrast depending on what’s in the foreground. It’s the standard today, but not necessarily ideal for all situations, like if you have plants or foliage in the shot, then we will use blue.

@@GarretGrayCamera Blue was initially used for best results with skin tones. Any colour background "could" be used for different situations and needs. Luma keying and other methods are used too. You can also change the foreground object colours to work better with a specific background. Firefox (1982) required some innovation to shoot shiny black miniature models. They used UV paint and reverse blue-screen techniques. You may need do multiple passes with different techniques then composite the layers for the final.

I was a big fan of dukes of hazzard when it was airing for the first time in the early 80’s. Now that I’m middle age, I find so many things wrong it’s hard to watch it without constantly pointing out mistakes. It seems I see less when watching Knight Rider.😂
@digitalmagicAR9 ай бұрын
Dukes of Hazzard and Fall Guy didn't use green screen ( or blue screen which is normally used for film). They used rear projection which was far cheaper for all those awful driving shots. Thankfully Hardcastle & McCormick and Knight Rider almost always used mounted cameras on moving cars. DOH did at first but then moved towards almost always using rear projection.

How about doing an episode showing everytime Michael pushed a button on a big red panel, like "Laser", or whatever. I always think it's funny that no matter how many buttons were already in the car, somehow, they had to add a button that wasn't actually there, but just in closeups! Or, where was the Super Persuit Mode switch cluster located? Things like that. Thanks

Talking about KITT's scanner light, I remember my mom thought at the time it's probably made by some mechanical way, some arm would move the red light bulb back and forth, but I didn't believe it, because of the trailing effect, and all-on effect at start :D I was sure even back then it's made by electronics.

I had noticed that Michael's leather jacket changed throughout the series, being a bit of a leather jacket enthusiast myself (probably due, at least in part, to having grown up with Michael's leather jacketed figure), and always just assumed Michael owned several different black leather jackets, but I had never noticed the episodes where he doesn't wear one at all. 20:29 I love how you include the "drawn-out fade-to-silence while partway through the theme song" music-clip here --- it reminds me of a scene towards the end of one of the K.R. episodes where David had preliminarily foiled the bad guys and saved/protected their would-be victims from immediate distress, and so it then plays this "initial triumph over evil" music-sequence, and shows a wide-angle night scene of the city where the action has been taking place, to indicate that "all is well for now, and the good guys enjoy a peaceful night", before David and K.I.T.T. perform further heroics in the morning to really "settle things" and actually bring the mercenaries to justice. :D

Did they build one of the Stunt KITT’s with a modified rear end for the ski stunts? They had to for the General Lee’s. The rear ends wanted to shift the weight towards the ground and the tires would rub the wheel wells, limiting how far they could travel.

I have a quick question, not related to this video, but in relation to the FLAG trailer. Was there any other productions outside of Universal Studio productions that the trailer was featured in? I ask because I began to watch some of the episodes of The Fall Guy, and during the opening credits of the show, there is a clip that shows a stunt where it's the inside of a trailer and a car comes rolling up into it in it's montage. Now I know the show proper production used some of the Trans-Ams from the train wreck, but the opening credits of The Fall Guy used stunt clips from various movies (such as the high fall from The Poseidon Adventure) and the one showing the car driving up into a trailer looks to have come from another movie. So, does anyone know if the trailer used for the FLAG semi had any appearances film appearances not related to MCA/Universal TV shows? Or was the clip used in The Fall Guy opening credits was just another trailer that just so happen to have the same kind of drive-up ramp?

Anyway they had a bunch of kitt cars in a parking lot cause they were always filming near by so I guess it was storage. I went to look inside one of them and the whole dash was covered in lines for the show. I lost my innocence that day but yet I continued watching the show lol.

Instead of stopping the sliding my right wheels road up onto the top of the snow bank and straightened my car forward again. At at least a 45 degree or more angle i entered the intersection on 2 wheels before setting it down and quickly getting over to the side. Luckily any traffic was back further as the traffic light had just turned green moments before. It was definitely a holy shit i lived moment.
