in reality, armor 'was' paper. None of it was ever mean to withstand a direct impact from a heavy weapon head-on. They were meant to divert/slow-down attacks. a Plate chest piece would stop a sword edge that was swung sideways, but if you rammed it point-first, it'd go threw. And even a side-on edge would sometimes bite threw the armor being worn. Combat armor was not some 1/2 thick piece of solid steel. You'd be unable to move, let alone wear that much weight for long. Its why most armor 'plate' unless it was for show, were only in vital sections. Chest, Back, thighs, arms... the rest were covered by chainmail, which offered 'some' protection from edges, but was still lighter than plate.

I've even tested it in real life because I own a set of Norman armour (England 1066 time period). I let someone smack me in the head with a plank of wood while wearing a Norman helmet and I didn't even feel it lol.

And you notice - that every time armour is penetrated by a slash, it never shows the cut, but the angle is always behind the victim. The reason they do that is for easier animation and the sight of chain and plate being slashed like cloth would look stupid - they know this. Back in the day (with "full harness" armour) it was so good, that they would have to literally "find the gaps" - slashing became useless. For every 15 hits you go on a knight, perhaps 1 would actually wound or kill - THAT'S WHY THEY WORE IT. This "one hit and they're down" imagery is stupid. Unfortunately the depictions of medieval combat have not really progressed since Hollywood 1950's B-movies. --- No realism.

Exactly. Most medieval fights between heavily armoured fighters almost always ended in wrestling matches, and death blows were frequently stabs or slices into the armour weak-points (such as at the joints, the neck, grown, etc). Rarely were strikes like the one in the video lethal because armour was -like you said - just that good. I mean obviously it’s a game so realism doesn’t take precedent but still seemed lazy that the strikes on armour drew blood.

Indeed. Kampfringen/Harnischfecten -- armed grappling using specialized sword techniques and/or a rondel dagger -- and weaponry capable of inflicting severe blunt force trauma through armor (flanged maces, pollaxes, etc.) were preferred. If the opponent is wearing anything more formidable than a gambeson/padded jack, you're really not accomplishing much worthwhile with a cut generally speaking. And even then you'd better have a nice, sharp edge. I guess telling the art majors responsible for designing a lot of these games that most armored judicial duels and the like often ended up with two exhausted men in full harness engaging in a really surreal spin of a Medieval cage match rather than a graceful series of spinning cuts and flowy flourishes doesn't go over well ;P

I like that the normal soldier tried to attack appolyon as well. It was also fun to see him and the big knight have respect for each other before they did their sneak attack. I like games where the npc's or these 'normal soldiers' are taken seriously and can actually do something against the usually OP main characters and not just always treated like canon fodder.
