@@elrick44 alas, that's a general issue with the series anyway. many saints just learn one or two special moves since in fights these are often supposed to be their finishers. Even more so since a semi-photographic memory is a requirement for a saint (to quote a phrase used often in OG Saint Seiya: "the same attack won't work twice on a Saint!", meaning once a saint has seen an attack once, they'll remember it and be able to more accurately dodge it/withstand it). Iirc, until he later became the Sagittarius Saint, Seiya only used 3 major attacks: the Pegasus Ryuseiken (Pegasus Meteor Fist: a hail of blows containing cosmo); Pegasus Suiseiken (Pegasus Comet Fist: a single concentrated blow with slightly more cosmo in it than the Ryuseiken); and the Pegasus Rolling Crash (which was a spinning suplex).

Being a 3D animation major this is very well done. Some of the textures look ehh gross and the render lighting could have been a bit better but overall its one of the best looking 3D anime, beastars is amazing in 3D as well

ok, let's say that the video game cinematic like graphics are ok. Let's say that the low tier version of Pegasus Fantasy is FINE. BUT, changing the gender of Shun is ruining the character and his signification. The problem is not that he became a woman, remplacing Seiya by a woman would be fine and wouldnt change much "even if it would be kinda dumb" but changing Shun's gender makes no sense. Did they even understand the character before taking such a decision ?

Wdym? Is this a joke? I genuinely can't tell. Why would changing seiya be ok, but not shun? Seiya actually acts like a man; he wouldn't work as a female. Shun on the other hand always acted and looked like a girl. He even had a female voice when shown in flashbacks. His change of gender changed NOTHING in his personality or character. If anything, it made much more sense, and arguably furthered his character, or at least gives him more potential.

Ok, I've watched most of the episodes already aired and I just have to speak of my mind about this. I understand the hate on it because the all "Shun is a girl" thing. But you can't possibly judge it because of that. I mean, the concept of the adaptation is pretty great, actually. The all prophecy thing makes more sense than having the saints believe Saori is not Athena. And also there's the fact this starts with a war between three factions that makes things more interesting: we have Saori and the bronze knights vs Santuary vs Guraad. Not to mention animation is actually pretty great and they were able to put many episodes into 12 quite effectively. Now, I'm not saying this remake is better than the original because I would be lying. Nothing can't beat the original. Also, I'm not saying having Shun as a girl is decent, because in my opinion they f***ed there. I mean, it's not I would not accept it, because I always hated that stupid rule about female saints having to hide their faces and kill or love the man that comes to see their face. But it's because Shun is a symbol to strong androgynous male and also because it made Ikki's interaction with Esmeralda quite weird. I mean, she looked exactly like Shun and, in the original series, we let it pass because Shun was his brother, but knowing in this new series Shun is a girl... Well, I supose you get the idea. Anyway, I don't let that mistake to ruin the beautiful story this remake tells and I believe you shouldn't do it too.

How can you praise something for using the prophecy cliche? 99% of fantasy adventure stories start with a yet another stupid lazy prophecy plot. In the original, Seiya and the others trained hard to be saints. Being a saint and having powers was quite a feat. They started as regular humans and then had to work their way up to golden saints of Athena. Seiya was the ultimate saviour of humanity because of his corageous and persistant personality, not because he was "born with powers and destiny". Now from the first chapter they tell you he is DESTINED to be the best and save Athena, and he can use meteor fists without training. The original show taught kids that the power (cosumo) is inside everyone's heart, but you have to be brave, rightous, kind, persistant and a hard-worker in order to wake it up and achieve awesome stuff. This Netflix remake is reinforcing the special-snowflake mindset.

Opera_Ghost no the story is just stupid and the storytelling is stupid. Animation is fine, that is the only good point. The original is not better because of nostalgia, it simply is better in the story telling and building up tension during the fights. The Netflix version completely fails at this. A compressed story also has no place for some useless extra story arc with the general or the useless change in the core saint origin and waste of time showing it. You know it makes no fucking sense to bully Seiya and deny him if he was born to be a saint as opposed to the original story where he was sent by his orphanage to become a saint through rigorous training and return with the armor to Japan thus „stealing“ it from sanctuary.

Almost reminds me of the anime Initial D. The first dub was by TOKYOPOP and the second dub was by Funimation. The first dub actually changed some character names and changing the background music. Funimation actually kept the Japanese names and background music

I've never understood the hate of unique artstyle like this. This is NOT "bad", this is different, and for some reason, the anime community sees this as a bad thing. CGI is always seen as "bad", even when it's perfectly executed like in land of the lustrous. It just sucks that the community has become so close minded, even to the point of ignoring things that can be genuinely great

This looks quite ugly though. Many of the design choices they make to try and look even a bit like the original don't really lend themselves to 3D. As reviled as Legend of Sanctuary is, the designs DID take into account that the animation medium is different and as such many of the adaptation changes made sense. This however? It tries to imitate some of the old conventions in a medium that doesn't befit them. There simply are some things that work on 2D that DON'T on 3D, like how they tried to render the hair(not only it looks stiff and unnatural, but in 2D they pretty much "faked" it so it looked consistent no matter the camera angle; meanwhile, in 3D there will inevitably be angles where the haircuts look awkward no matter the way they approach volume if they want to make it look like the original) or how they approached the eyes(where the eye hibhlights look like stickers in 3D due to the mor edetailed lighting whereas in 2D that same design makes sense due to the literal flatness of the image and general color of the characters). In general 3D animation made for TV or stream services can't really get to the required quality to look good. And the design choices they made for this series...don't really make use of the best 3D has to offer nor really works using design conventions of the old series. It's kind of the worst of both worlds.

They don't want to look like the original, hence why they changed so many things. They changed the armor, they changed the artstyle, they changed shun's gender, and they even tweaked the story quite a bit. I really don't see why you think they were trying to imitate something when they made it so obvious that they were trying to be unique and deviate. The animation is extremely clean though, and I personally find the artstyle to be intentionally unique, not lazy like you seem to think it is. I can't change your mind on it being ugly, as that's just an opinionated matter, but the other stuff is just obvious

I'm new to the series, but I see why people are mad, they chose the effeminate man out of all to genderbend. The one that broke male stereotypes. It does the exact opposite effect, it just established not only the stereotypical male but also the the stereotypical female as well. I would have them rather choose the blonde guy, or just add a female character. Since female characters can't show their face, she could be undercover as a man, some tomboy Mulan stuff going around. Would attract female fans. She could be the one too break female stereotypes in Sanctuary, once people find out she's female, she can prove to them they don't need a mask to be thought of equal to men, as gender shouldn't matter. Far stretch but I could also see her being the host to a god, Artemis or Hera.(another plot twist) I also like the cultural aspect of names, I agree that they should name a Greek person a Greek name. They should also add more cultures into the show. Would attract more people, they also rush the show too much. The action scenes are lazy, as is the story telling. Half the things don't make sense, they could have at least established, how the get cloths etc. And how you are born under a constellation. Like you could be a virgo Andromeda, which means you are given the bronze cloth after you are tested after training. You then get promoted to silver and from there to become gold or something, you need to get your 6th sense and fight the gold saint of your sign or they give it to you. It was only one episode in which the enemy was introduced, and by ep 2 he had the bronze cloth and by the second season he already used the gold:/ Also the seasons are much to short and I don't see any passion put into them. The plot was okay but all in all it was just a mess and everywhere. Remind where the locations were again? Even as a newcomer, I felt very disappointed in it, which should say something.

only here the rule of wearing a mask for holy women is inviolable. if they show a face to a person,they must either kill or love them. The only exceptions were the Yuna eagle. in turn, changing the sex of shun is basically excluded. this is the kind of character that should be male even more than shiryu. at least because he is an avatar of Hades.

Anyway Iove the female masks it separated then from the men and gave them an aura of mystery. The lore was sound too, Athena wants females to abandon their femininity and the only way they can show their face is to the man a female saint wants to love, otherwise seeing their face is a death sentence.

I just watched this first 6 episodes! I love it! Well when we watched the show we were not teenagers. We were kids. I don’t mind that it was written for kids because thats what it was originally. As i have watched this original anime and all the sagas i cherish what Netflix has done and i hope they keep making it for years to come i will gladly keep my subscription with them. The opening is soooo amazing, great music adaptation, the animation wasn’t the greatest but is oriented to nowadays kids. It only needs the gore of the original version. Also is wonderful how fenix ikki manages to look cool even with a childish style. In Spanish they have most of the original voice cast that helps a lot to get submerged into the history. So sad Jesus barrero died and couldn’t doubt Seiya for Latin America.

It felt odd that they immediately start wearing their V2 armors at the beginning, i always preferred their original cloths If they really had to change genders, I think it would have been okay to see Ikki being the one, at least in this case you see a brother that is saved by his sister, at least that could have lessened the blow to year long fans. cause remember this was supposed to be the earlier versions of Sailor Moon, before Sailor Moon became a thing with a female cast...which a male supporting character sometimes saves them lol

Talking about that remake, color balance was good, character model was not too bad, VFX was better than what I expected, and that's pretty much the only good things of it. The scripting is what gets me. If feels like written by a teenager and for little kids. Even if that was the target audience, they needed to realize fans would watch and rate (or what's the point of buying the IP?). For example, on episode 1, Vander asks Alman if he still believes in those superstitions about the knights, and then seconds later he says he's certain he can defeat the Gods. Isn't that part of the whole "superstition?" Also, characters change their hearts way too quickly. There was no heart in the story. The last time I saw a script so pathetic was when I watched The Last Airbender (the movie). I think even the simple animations in my channel might be less pathetic. When I saw Shun as a woman, I already knew stupidity was coming because they couldn't even understand that Shun being male was to show that man can also have a feminine Cosmo. Man can be delicate and sensitive and wear pink. They instead thought it was the best character to turn into a woman, completely missing the point of what Shun represents. So I knew the scripting would be pathetic, but I still had to be sure to not judge a book by its cover. That Netflix series is a disrespect to the Saint Seiya franchise.

Yeah I don't mind the cgi, it reminds of the latest Jump Force or whatever that realistic looking anime game that came out was called, but the writing is pretty bad. The story time skips constantly and it feels like they condensed 2-4 episodes into one. The dialogue is 2/10, animations are constantly reused. Without the gun violence, killing and light profanity, this could easily be a TVPG or TVY rating. Feels like a kid show that they poorly added more mature content to.

I've seen the English Dub of this reboot it's not that bad, although I do agree changing Shun's gender was a stupid decision, if they wanted to add female saints that actually play a major role as allies besides Marin, and June they could've added the main Saintias aka the main warrior-maidens from the manga Saint Seiya: Saintias Sho in as major allies who help out every so often.

The thing that bothers me the most is Shun gender swap ruins a major plot point later in the series. We all know he has feminine traits and one is his motivation was that he looked up to his brother but he didn’t like fighting. A good relationship between him and his brother was that when shun was getting beat down in a fight then he would have flashbacks where Ikki would be like its time to be a man and fight and shun would get serious and fight. I get they want to have women represented in the series as one of the main character but in the old anime and manga female saints wore masks because if they took their mask off then they either have to kill that person or love them and they just completely threw that away.
