Brian McDermott: Stories from English rugby league, Super League success and coaching philosophy

Having joined the nib Newcastle Knights coaching staff in the off-season, Senior Assistant Coach Brian McDermott talks about his journey within the game and how the squad is preparing for the 2023 season.
A highly regarded coach and former English Super league player, McDermott has won several major trophies and titles, including four premierships at the helm of the Leeds Rhinos, making him the most successful coach in Super League history.
On the KNIGHTS // HQ Podcast, the boys test Brian's knowledge on his playing and coaching career, plus a game against our very own Knights back in '02 as part of the World Club Challenge.
The new Assistant Coach also spoke about his transition into coaching after over 250 games for the Bradford Bulls. He also shares stories from his title-winning Leeds sides including a famous treble-winning season in 2015.
McDermott also discusses his excitement to work in a new country, in the NRL.

Brian McDermott a legend of the British game, and I’m sure he will bring a lot to the Knights. You don’t win Grand Finals, Challenge Cups, World Club Challenge without being a class act. He’s a proper Wakefield lad, he’s got a great dry sense of humour, his family are so proud of his accomplishments & achievements as I know Brian is proud of Paul! He coached the best rugby league club in the summer era in the UK. Good luck for the 2025 season. I’m a Wakefield Trinity fan who have a staunch history like Neil Fox MBE. Up the Knights for 2025

Brian is a top man.i wasin 45 withhim.Did a half ironman together in Falkirk Scotland 30 years ago.Ws where both onthe RM boxing team .If you have ever met him he had a real can do atfitude .He waa 15 stone doing a half iron man so about 5 stone heaverier than everyone in the race and Brian came inthe top half.... we never tainned for it just did it lol.😅😅😂😂
